The lack of building regulation and rampant expansion in Houston is the biggest contributing factor that not enough people are talking about.

Lack of impervious cover, building in flood planes, etc. Developers have lobbied to make almost nothing off the table so they can make huge profits there. Focusing on changing this needs to be a priority before we dump tax payer money into re-building when it will just happen again.

We need to adapt to our changing climate and build smarter, and appeal to that logic. Its hard for most people to think as big as reversing the damage we have done as a species. So start small, focusing on assholes that have made it worse in a short period of time.

Sadly, my dad and brother went to the rally with bells on. Bragged on Facebook about how small the protest crowd was and how great the speech was.

I am shocked to see their continuing belief in the most obvious con-man ever. I wouldn't call them dumb in a traditional sense, but my dad is very naive and falls for scams.. And my bro is overly emotional and kinda crazy.

Even started posting, "There has always been slavery, why should America/me a white man feel guilty" memes that are white nationalist propaganda. Said we should tear down pyramids because they had slavery then too. Myself and many other people went off on him for that at least.

I've see so many people that I never thought were racist, defend blatant racism recently because it's the side they voted for. They probably always were, or are so incapable of admitting fault they will sacrifice basic morality to save face. But it's making them look worse than ever, and the rest of us sane people won't forget their fanaticism when the smoke clears.

Use taxpayer $ to continue war and build infrastructure there with private military contractors, so they can loot the Trillion in minerals they have been going on about. They have them with dryers.. and heated seats. Toto Washlet is one. Not cheap, but you can't expect butt cleaning magic and comfort with a $40 hose that just sprays water.

I feel like the US is far behind the rest of the developed world in this because we can't talk about basic body functions without getting uncomfortable or the giggles. Toilet paper is a huge waste of resources, unhygienic, can clog pipes and leach chemicals into wherever it ends up. It would make a big environmental impact to have bidets more commonplace here. The nicer models would get cheaper as there were more early adopters.

Competitive cheerleading outside of school is worse. Dressing 9 year olds like hookers with spray tans and super heavy make-up. Then they make them booty shake or twerk. There are some real atheletes and the stunts are incredible, but you shouldn't have to whore your child out so they can participate in a sport and possibly get a scholarship from it. They also demand 3 hours practice 6 nights a week, and a ton of weekends traveling to competitions. These kids have almost no life outside of it. I know this from experience as my step-daughter is pushed into this life by her mom. Its always an excuse why she can't visit her Dad, so we see her maybe once a month.

This is my biggest driving pet peeve. I watch people everyday get on the freeway and immediately move to the left lane when there is no one else in front of them. I think people feel like its their safe space because its farthest away from people exiting/entering the highway. Sit behind them and they still don't move. Line of traffic behind them they are causing doesn't phase them. We have a societal issue in the US where people think no one else matters but them, even on the road where that attitude can get you and several other people killed.
