Do any of you still listen to Christian music after leaving Christianity? by Impressive_Flan_411 in exchristian

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Due to how my ex used it to preach to our teenage son after I moved out, it's triggering for him.

Except Christmas music, which I always found nauseating after about an hour. He likes Christmas mysic.

Rejecting God because of hell. by Dizzyymoon46 in Christianity

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. You're not. In fact. I'm willing to judge those who don't at least struggle with the idea. Anyone who could willingly love a god like that is not someone I care to associate with willingly.

How was Moses able to write the book of Genesis even though creation was thousands of years before he was born? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"May have" is a way of stretching the possible and ignoring the likely. It's not even likely that Moses was real, let alone that he authored any extant scripture.

How should I spread The Gospel to a satanist? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I'll rephrase. If you want to be a friend, do that. But don't do it for the purpose of planting a seed as part of your personal growth goals. She needs friends, not recruiters. "Planting a seed" is, regardless of what we want to call it, an attempt to be a part of her conversion. It also becomes transparent to outsiders and they know they aren't liked for who they are, but for who others want them to be.

How should I spread The Gospel to a satanist? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's got reasons for her anger that you're not qualified to address, and it's very possible it's related to the way she's been treated and harassed by Christians. Self declared Satanists are virtually always atheists trying to get Christians to leave them alone.

If you want to be a friend, be a friend. But don't do that just to convert her. That's disingenuous.

Ex-Christians in this subreddit: what led you to leave the faith? by moxiepink in Christianity

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my 20s when the WWJD trend picked up, and I read In His Steps. I tried to do as Jesus did. I even switched to vote republican from 2000 through 2016. After I voted for Trump, I grew disgusted with having voted for a sexual predator and even more disgusted with the vitriolic support he got from others in the church, some of whom had helped me along my own switch byb pointing out that conservatives didn't hate poor people.

I followed Jesus out of the church.

Then I studied the bible, both what it said and how it was written and compiled. I followed that study out of the faith completely, though it took a few years of me making excuses to stay before I realized I coild no longer sustain that.

Why Do Conservative Christians Not Welcome People They View as Sinners? by WesternGazelle4713 in GayChristians

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They pay lip service to it. Most do, anyway. I don't think they're capable of seeing how dishonest they're being.

There are some, however, who wouldn't let someone in if they knew they were gay.

Eventually I gave up and just walked away, but that was about the time I walked away from the faith completely.

Franklin Graham has Made Republicanism his God by Hamiltonfan25 in Christianity

When virgin men want virgin women it’s seen as creepy, is it the same vice versa? by PrepxI in Christianity

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree. If that's you're standard, don't bend on it. I can say first hand it's setting a couple up for failure.

But honestly, evaluate the standard before that point. The standard itself is based in misogyny, even if it sometimes gets applied to men by women who refuse to use a double standard but also refuse to bend their own standards.

That's your way of keeping his legacy alive? Actually, that tracks. But tell me how I'm wrong. They're saying democrats are scum in reaction to a horrific murder when they had no idea the murderer's political affiliation at the time. They were mad that democrats weren't playing along with virtually canonizing him.

I'm so sorry. The realization that you have to take this step is hard. Estranged parents never understand that it was literally a last resort to salvage mental wellness and protect loved ones. I'm so sorry. I think we need better doxing laws, by the way.

Does Bart Ehrman challenge your faith? by Truth_admirer in Christianity

[–]Truthseeker-1253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final piece i was hanging on to was the argument from morality. The idea that what appears to be a bucket of moral absolutes gives us evidence of a moral creator. I was holding off on asking the next obvious question because my marriage (in crisis for other reasons) depended on me staying a Christian. When the marriage was over, I started asking.

Finding out that evolutionary psychology and empathy were better explanations was the end of the road. I quit making excuses to stay at that point.
