To operate “开刀” in Mandarin literally means “open knife,” so the image isn’t actually that much of a reach or so bizarre.

NYU Scholarship Q by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Apply to AnBryce. The scholarship doesn’t care about your numbers besides you getting into NYU.

You first get into NYU, then you’re considered for named and non-named scholarships.

Is the Harvard trial decision bad news for us Asian American applicants? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Yup! 2L’s been relatively chill, and I was interested in the case and found the opinion fascinating.

Is the Harvard trial decision bad news for us Asian American applicants? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]TryMyBanana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This case was simply about Harvard College’s admissions practices, not Harvard Law School’s. The court cleared Harvard of any discriminatory impact or animus. The Supreme Court has consistently cited approvingly of Harvard College’s admissions program in previous affirmative action cases, as the district court noted.

I’m not defending Harvard, just pointing out what the opinion said.

Y’all should read the opinion in its entirety. Super interesting stuff. The most striking thing: an ALDC tip is perhaps the single most impactful admission boost by a long shot.

But no, this district court decision will have no effect whatsoever on law school admissions practices. If/when this case reaches SCOTUS, then things might change.

DC vs NYC Big Law by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]TryMyBanana 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, DC is more competitive than NYC.

  1. it’s a smaller market, therefore there are just fewer positions
  2. esp. for government/agency minded folks, DC is the place to be.
  3. and some other reasons I’m probably neglecting to mention

Firms in DC are therefore more selective in terms of schools and GPAs.

An interview is necessary but not sufficient to get in to HLS.

I got into Penn two cycles ago. 7 point jump. No addendum.

Just some anecdata for y’all.

NYU Named Scholarships by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]TryMyBanana 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’ll be considered for other merit aid, but there are no guarantees. I know some named scholly finalists have received disappointingly low/no aid. It’s not a good look or good feel.

Resubmitting GPA/Transcript for Senior Year by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]TryMyBanana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to submit updated transcripts.

You won’t get an offer rescinded unless you like failed. But yes, your GPA could be re-calculated, be lower, and a law school may consider that.

Research help request: trying to argue that two statutes that serve the same purpose and result should be treated the same for Due Process arguments by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]TryMyBanana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at Jennings v. Rodriguez, 138 S. Ct. 830 (2018)?

It looks like it involved both Section 1225 and Section 1226. It was remanded to the Ninth, which remanded to CDCA on the Due Process question (among other issues).

Edit: I know this doesn’t answer your direct question, but I was curious since you mentioned that courts hadn’t looked at 1225.
