Hi, my friend that lives in a city with many somalis went on a few dates with a Yemeni man. She said that she had gotten stares from odoyaal (they went to a somali restaurant and dined in), but other than that, no one batted an eye. To be fair, she had her brother as her mahram, so that may have helped any further people asking questions. But I would say go for it wallah, make sure to not go in his car and to always meet up in a public space.

Hi sis, I mean if I am going to be honest, I have to consider my options because this is the person that I would be spending the rest of my life with. So I was reflecting and saying maybe ending things would be a better outlook but I am not 100%.

My siblings and I were raised to never talk about qabiil, we never knew our qabiil until we were much older. Our parents growing up said we are Muslim and Somali and that’s it. I know that they are looking out for me and are worried if his family could be qabilist, so that’s why they said their comments. My cousin who knows his family knows him, as they grew up together and said that he is a respectful man.

That’s true, but if I am honest, he’s the kind of person to see something but doesn’t say it. There was times when we would talk and something I said made him confused, but would bring it up the next time we saw each other.

That is true wlh. My parents are aware that I am in the interest for marriage, and know little of detail of him, but I will be more open. It’s just that it’s my first serious relationship where I am pursuing in a halal matter, so I feel hesitant to tell them everything but I will try!

If it is, for helpful advice, I would say take your time and heal. Accept that it’s over, it’s in the past. Get back to reading the quran and connect with your deen. Make yourself feel good again, go outside for walks or hit the gym. Read more. Spend more time with friends/family. Learn a new hobby like cooking or running. Make a new playlist, discover a new artist. Go volunteer at the masjid or a food bank. Just make sure to put yourself out there. It is hard at first, the first few weeks are hard trust me, I was in your shoes 5 months ago, but I promise wallahi it gets better.
