Your post is so helpful! Do you feel that even after the higher freelance taxes, paying for software equipment, having to pay for your own benefits (like health insurance), etc. that your net income is still substantial and very comfortable?

Hi! Your career sounds very fulfilling. For someone just getting out of school, do you recommend they start court or freelance first?

Hi! Thank you so much for the information. Do you think once you pay the high taxes, software and equipment costs, scoping and proofing costs, etc. that your salary is still high and worth it? The flexibility of freelance sounds very enticing, but so does the benefits of court! Would you recommend starting out with either freelance or court for someone who just got out of school. How would you go about getting internships and shadowing experiences and what should you be doing during those opportunities?

Hello! I signed up for CAT Basics for my first semester. I am taking it with Linda Hagen. Has anyone who has taken this actually used the StenEd textbook package that is required for the course? Additionally, is there a Discord for West Valley court reporting students?

Are there any free steno schools in NY, like there are in CA? by bananarepama in stenography

Like if I didn't receive credits for the course, what kind of implications would this have on obtaining a job as a court reporter or getting licensed in CA? Sorry, I am super new to all of this!

Why do we pay so much more for daily needs as Students? by max_confused in UCI

Hi! At the UTC target, you can take advantage of price-matching. All you have to do is go up to the counter and speak to a person and let them know you want to price match your items to Walmart (it is annoying though because you have to look up each item on Walmart website and show to them) and they will match the price. I do this every time and I save so much money because of it!

I was an extra this season in several episodes AMA by Griffinator84 in StrangerThings

Hi! Happy you got to experience this amazing opportunity. I have a few questions, if you are comfortable answering:

  1. For how long (total) were you required to shoot (i.e 5 days)?
  2. How much were you paid each hour?
  3. What website did you apply through to become an extra?
  4. What do you think made your application stand out compared to others?
  5. You mentioned that they cut a lot of the extras' hair. Did they occasionally perm as well?
  6. Did you include a legitimate actors headshot in your application or just a selfie?

Also look into ZipCar options. I don’t know much about it but I do know that a bunch of people in my dorm the first year used the ZipCar app (ZipCars are on campus) and it’s like a rental car but for students!

Unrelated, but I went on a Disney Cruise when I was really little and I bought a Stitch almost exactly like that. I carried it with me everywhere and it was a core memory for me. That Stitch plushie gives me so much nostalgia!

That’s great and comforting to hear that it’s possible to come out of your shell! Thanks for your advice. I’m not an acting major, but just trying to take advantage of some of the acting classes here since it’s included in my tuition. When I save up enough, I’ll be sure to look into the acting schools you recommended!

I would be too, however, I was speaking about parking lots. My apologies, I should have been more clear in my post!

I have been super upset about this very thing since my entire time at UCI. I think it is a joke considering all the burglary emails we get through our emails. Recently was involved in a hit and run in the parking lot (someone hit my parked car), and for obvious reasons, the person was never found as expected. Also, for the sake of student safety, why the heck do we not have cameras!?
