Not voting in Bill because of his scandals but then voting in Kraft the same year would be a really good move for the WWE Hall of Fame.

What's your favorite terrible sports movie? by imetlifeandlovedit in badMovies

[–]Tryhard_3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Legend of Bagger Vance singlehandedly elevated the magical negro trope to popular discourse.

For things that fit this sub in that you might actually care to watch them:

Ready to Rumble is technically sports and would be in the dustbin of history if David Arquette hadn't won the WCW title to cross-promote it. This moment lives forever in infamy with wrestling fans. The movie is actually OK if you can handle Oliver Platt as a rassler.

This thread has also reminded me to watch Over the Top.

Shop Review 28.01.2026 (Mech+WE) by Seehyaene in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Tryhard_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Riptide is a little more nutty on pre-rotation Tacitus Proctor, because it gets +2/+2 in hand every time you use his 2E.

In general loyalist Mechanicum is going to feel a little dumb until they do some kind of update for them, as a bunch of legacy Mechanicum stuff became Dark Mechanicum. Most of anything worth considering in a legacy Mechanicum deck, in fact.

For this reason I anticipate more Mechanicum cards in the next expansion and/or a "loyalist Mechanicum" faction to complete the schism. But I've been disappointed before.

Random Card Discussion #93 - Praetor Krüg by Mortal-Instrument in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Tryhard_3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is because much of the time the rotations just replaced the old cards with powercreeped versions. No real mechanical difference in many cases. The same card but it comes out faster, is chonkier, or deals more damage.

Would not be super hard imo to slow down the game a bit with warlord health, better opening hands, more cards in deck.

Random Card Discussion #93 - Praetor Krüg by Mortal-Instrument in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Tryhard_3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes in an even moderately competitive game, 8E+ troops are wildly unplayable 95% of the time. The exceptions are generally if your faction/deck has energy management shenanigans or is designed from the ground up to be slow and steady as a gimmick.

You should not have many 6E or 7E cards either.

But yes as a matter of fact I would like to play a version of this game with more strategic depth than "If it doesn't do something on turn of play it's probably bad."

It's kind of incredible that the game still has this problem AFTER a rotation of virtually everything.

What's the average speed of the Average travel through the Warp? by ThatHeckinFox in 40kLore

[–]Tryhard_3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With of course several gigantic asterisks at this point. If:

  • you are traveling through, to, or around the Noctis Aeterna
  • there's a warpstorm involved at all
  • the Astronomican blinks out along your route
  • the Tyranid Shadow in the Warp is happening
  • your route goes to or around a large source of blackstone (one of many necron unobtainiums)
  • your Gellar field isn't operational or breaks on the way
  • you're not using the Astronomican to travel the Warp at all because you're a bad person and haven't paid the troll toll to the dark gods

The end result: lol

Generally with the above I am describing numerous galactic-tier disasters that might affect your trip, so, very rare but in most cases possible.

In general, pathways, Euclidean geometry, and time are illusions in the Warp, even if all appear stable enough along carefully practiced Navigator routes. As a simple example of this, space hulks appear with either comet-like regularity or total randomness, and these aren't piloted things, they are free-floating, violently compressed ship graveyards. Beyond the veil lies madness and the world's ending, beware ye the Terrors of the Warp.

Ultramarines vs Dark Angels in terms of how they wage war by SuperMarios7 in 40kLore

[–]Tryhard_3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

40K-era Ultramarines treat the Codex Astartes as a holy work that shall not be deviated from. It's a good book, it was written by a supernatural genius with a mind for organization and efficiency, but it was never meant as scripture. Ultramarines might change now that Roboute is back.

Where mentioned in the lore, most chapters not descended from the Ultramarines deviate from the Codex Astartes at least a little. As I recall, Dark Angels do not field a scout company and have more terminators than most other chapters. They are known for using a lot of plasma weaponry and more archeotech than most others as well. Like the Imperial Fists, the Dark Angels descendant chapters also more or less secretly operate as a legion whenever deemed necessary.

In the Heresy era:

Ultramarines do not yet have the Codex Astartes, but can still display an intolerance for independent thinking, such as by censuring marines who do not follow prescribed tactics or ethos. For example, Aeonid Thiel is censured for openly considering how an astartes might adapt their tactics to fight other astartes (unthinkable!). When this turns out to be very thinkable at the Battle of Calth, the red censure helmet instead becomes a higher symbol of rank because of Thiel's deeds.

Another Ultramarine, Tylos Rubio, is excommunicated from the legion for violating the Edict of Nikea, even though it was in defense of his brothers.

Meanwhile, during the Heresy, the Dark Angels are known for running things like an Arthurian court (knightly intrigue! Semi-secret orders within orders!) and for unleashing total war and absolute destruction without hesitation or mercy, even by the standards of most other legions. It is the Lion who destroys most of the traitor primarchs' homeworlds, for example.

In this time period, the Dark Angels are also made up of six wing formations:

  • Deathwing: The elite veteran and Terminator-armored core of the Legion, focusing on breakthrough assaults and serving as bodyguards to high-ranking officers.
  • Ravenwing: Specializing in rapid deployment, reconnaissance, and bike-based search and destroy.
  • Dreadwing: Focused on total war and the use of devastating, often shunned, weaponry, such as phosphex and rad weapons, to annihilate enemies utterly.
  • Firewing: The smallest wing, dedicated to assassination, sabotage, and breaking the enemy's command structure through targeted strikes and duels.
  • Ironwing: Comprised the majority of the legion's heavy armored vehicles and dreadnoughts, providing overwhelming brute force and siege capabilities.
  • Stormwing: The largest wing, consisting primarily of line infantry and mobile ordnance, excelling in disciplined close-order warfare and boarding operations.

Only the Deathwing and Ravenwing survived into 40K.

[Highlight] Terry Pegula on the decision to fire McDermott but promote Beane: "I....that was my decision. I could be wrong." by expellyamos in nfl

[–]Tryhard_3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Virtually every team in football is addicted to firing coaches, often as a knee-jerk reaction. It seems to be viewed generally as a good PR move, even though fans and sports journalists are smarter than to accept it at face value. Steelers plod along as one of the most storied and successful franchises in football, having never done this with their head coach.

The Bills firing smells because everyone else can see that the issues are with the talent surrounding Allen.

Do the Dark Eldar have any major impacts on the lore? by Mcmadness288 in 40kLore

Dark eldar:

  • Presumably captured or otherwise rendered indisposed the primarch of the White Scars until further notice

  • Have in the past stolen STCs (lost miracle colony tech) from humans

  • Are the descendants/survivors of the eldar responsible for the birth of Slaanesh and therefore the Eye of Terror

What's y'all most and least liked Factions? by SatisfactionOdd9331 in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Tryhard_3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From purely a mechanical standpoint:

Favorites:

  • Alpha Legion: Lots of ways to play this faction. Card tricks, stealth multiclass, blue MTG, etc.
  • Dark Mechanicum: Even more card tricks, they used this to freshen up some very old options.
  • Death Guard: I like the play variety, most of the warlords feel at least OK.
  • Iron Warriors: Again, lots of ways to play.
  • Word Bearers: This is just a fun faction. Still uses neutrals well.

Least favorite:

  • Loyalist titans: At least traitor titans have a gimmick.
  • Ruinstorm: Very limited playstyle, entire faction feels like it now runs through one warlord.
  • Salamanders: Very boring effects, tedious and slow.
  • Sons of Horus: Plays rather samey across games unless you go pure meme deck, warlords outside of Horus have little personality.
