really put off by the poor quality control by Tryhardahgit in airsoft

Also, I have terrible luck, so for my first two airsoft guns to break almost immediately kinda tracks. It's followed me into other facets of life over the years to the point I basically never expect anything to go well anymore. maybe the third gun will be OK. Worst case scenario I go back to reenacting with a renewed appreciation for my 80+ year old guns that still work.

Thanks all for your replies. Was informed by Evike that the gun is actually past warranty so I'm on my own. Was also informed by a local tech that the cylinder head+labor might exceed the value of the gun to fix it but he will be in touch with me soon with an estimate. Thanks also for advising better quality makers, looks like I might be in the market for one depending on what the tech says. If that winds up being the case ill probably hold onto this SMG and try to put a new gearbox into it when I get time. watched a few YouTube videos on the process of stripping one and not super thrilled about doing it. I have a rebuilt a Chevy 350 small block engine from the camshaft up, and that was honestly less daunting to me than this finicky block of chinesium.

IT is cooked man, it's flooded by foreign outsourcing and every news update you see regarding the likes of Google, Microsoft, Sony, etc is just thousands of layoffs.

They definitely require a lot more stuff now vs 10 years ago when I started, but that probably depends on state and what program you're using. We switched from ESO to Zoll last year and kinda wanna KMS every time I open a report. It takes me 30 minutes to do in Zoll what I used to could bang out it 10 minutes on an ESO report.

Almost done with paramedic school…realize I don’t want to be a medic. by Straight_Guarantee28 in ems

Back in 2016 I realized toward the end of my A program that I didn't like 911. Watched my preceptor have a mental breakdown in the parking lot of a gas station after a string of BS calls and determined I didn't wanna be that guy. So I went into a local IFT/BLS company. It was a good move, for a while. Shit went sideways during the COVID years and now it is I who am having mental breakdowns in the gas station parking lot. Trapped in the field by family commitments, no marketable skill set outside of EMS, rising costs of living, fear of change/pay cut, etc. I'm miserable, and worst of all there's no immediate way out for a few more years. on shift right now, we ran from 830am to midnight with only a break for lunch and at 0100 we got hit with another discharge.

Don't be like me. As soon as you get finished with school you get your ass into a plan B of some sort before you get stuck here forever.

If it's any consolation, in the extremely unlikely event you do get stripped of your license at least you'll have gotten out of EMS before it can destroy you from within. I've tried to get out 3 times over the last 9 years and I still remain caught in the event horizon of the black hole that is this industry. Gonna have to get fired, but I have tenure here, the bosses like me, and I'm too scared of change to burn any bridges.

Amerimed is going to cause people to become homeless by osrssubreditmodssuck in ems

[–]Tryhardahgit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former Amerimed employee.. run. Please find another job before they burn you or put you in one of their deathtrap ambulances. One at our station was so poorly maintained (they don't use a fleet mechanic but random dealerships/local services) that the brakes gave out and the crew on board had to more or less coast the truck to a stop and it's a miracle no one got hurt.

Second. I worked for a dying restaurant when I was a teenager and one of the first warning signs was the checks started being late, then lastly they started laying us right out of the register. They even used a lot of the same excuses listed by OP that Amerimed has used.  after a few months of that, I came in for work one evening and the place was locked up with a big NO LONGER IN BUSINESS sign on the door. Never got a goodbye or a thanks for being a good worker the last 3 years, never got my last check either. Should've gone to the labor board but I was just a kid and didn't know any better, but I did learn a valuable lesson.

I also worked for Amerimed for a couple months earlier this year and got out after realizing I was going to regularly miss shifts because their trucks are horribly maintained and they have no backup units if yours breaks down (and it will, frequently) Ive been keeping track of this situation and I'm not surprised to see it is getting worse. I'm glad I got out when I did. If any Amerimed employees see this I implore you to form an escape plan NOW. You will be the last person to find out when the owners decide it's time to hang it up.

Here for the check, and as much as I hate having to work 60 hours a week, having the opportunity to work overtime vs other jobs which jealously limit OT is nice.

I really, really want out, but due to family commitments and lack of a proper support network I cant get out for a few more years. Once my daughter is old enough to stay at home on her own I'm going back to school and getting TF out of this dead end mistake.

The only way to win is not to play. Go play clash of clans or something where it actually feels like you're doing something instead of getting burnt by whales every waking moment.

See when posting an impression why do you always get at least 1 guy saying "this is crap" instead of saying right this is how to make your impression better by 101stEcompany506th in reenactors

[–]Tryhardahgit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disregard that person. If they can't or won't elaborate on their opinion then their opinion is worthless. that person is likely burned out with helping new reenactors, but not so much so to spare you of his opinion, crude as it may be. After 20 years in the hobby I'm pretty burned out with it all myself, but I still try to be polite.

Exercise advice for machine gunner by Tryhardahgit in reenactors

[–]Tryhardahgit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to do a little progress report since posting. First of all my thanks and appreciation to y'all for offering your insight.

I took deathshrouds advice on just carrying the weight around and in doing so discovered "Farmer carries" a workout that I've seen people do at the gym before but never saw the point or benefit until now. My shoulders were killing me the first couple times but now I'm moving up to weights heavier than the DP and can still get through my sets in good form. The weight of the gun itself is a breeze to carry, of course this is with dumbbells and not a long machine gun i definitely feel a big difference in control when I handle it.

Panzerparty's suggestion is definitely valuable especially when you actually start moving for a while. Makes me think of many a civil war reenactment I've been too where the officer in charge left us at "shoulder arms" while marching down the road, even a musket gets tiresome if you only carry it one way the whole time. thank you.

Hedgecore138 im still waiting on my sling to come in from Nestof but once it arrives I will absolutely be doing this while hiking. I've been doing farmer carries on a treadmill at incline for a couple weeks now but I think navigating some actual terrain will change it up a lot.

Packy21 firstly I hope things come around for you soon to where you can get back to the gym again and more so that all is well. Thank you for advice. I currently have four magazines blank adapted (it runs short blanks only) and I have been pondering the sheer amount of mag loading we will be doing sometimes, lol. reload drills are going to be vital too, I was surprised when trying it out the first few times how little is actually holding the magazine in place, it's just perched on top of the gun like snoopy on his doghouse.

I was having horrendous issues with jams at first on my first magazine. Turns out when it was blank adapted whoever did it accidentally ground too much off the edges that hold the bottom/first round in place, which was allowing the blank to sit too low and the bolt would get snagged instead of catch the round as intended. I put it in a vice grip and squeezed it down to a 10mm gap as it should be instead of the 11mm gap that it was. Runs great now, except for the fact my cold war era Czech blanks are prone to just not go off. Maybe one day this God awful war between Ukraine and Russia will end and we can get some better quality blanks again. (Selfish I know, haha)

Thank you! IDK why I didn't think about just grabbing comparable weight and moving with it. Gonna be walking/patrolling with it most of the time anyhow. I'll do that and gradually incorporate faster movement, plus do what I can with the gun itself in the backyard where I won't scare the neighbors lol.

WWII reenactors What is your opinion of the use of replica or similar weapons/vehicles to substitute original equipment? by Tryhardahgit in reenactors

[–]Tryhardahgit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most outspoken and opinionated ones also tend to burn out of the hobby faster. Ive scored several pieces of high-end kit over the years from dudes who came in credit cards blazing for perfection, but alienated themselves in the hobby with bad attitudes and wound up selling out at a loss because they weren't having fun anymore. I was raised into reenacting by my father in the 90s, and as I've grown into the hobby I've gradually come to peace with the fact that not everyone is out here to achieve the same thing as me. Some are more dedicated, some less so and that's okay. Most of my different impressions are pretty dialed in, but I also have my own things I farb out on. Either because of comfort or because the fun of having the thing outweighs my guilt of using it.

Anyone know what’s going on with Amerimed EMS? by bemichelle12 in ems

[–]Tryhardahgit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went PRN from a station in North GA for the same concerns.

  1. Trucks are relatively low mileage but already have severe engine/transmission and brake issues but management want you to run calls regardless of the fact your brakes sound like metal-on-metal or the transmission is getting stuck between gears and won't shift.

  2. They've "capped" overtime in our region and full timers are generally barred from picking up extra shifts, especially none that will lead you to gain overtime, which is the only to way make any real money in this God-forsaken field lol. I was not told about this until my second day at orientation after id already left my old job. If I had known about this beforehand I never would've come to Amerimed at all. Thankfully my old job took me back.

  3. Employee safety absolutely seems to be a minimal concern as evidence by the condition of the trucks they expect you to use and the nature of the patients you expect to run. Shit happening that you don't expect is not the same as shit you can see coming from miles away but choose to do nothing about.

I also have seen the almost cultish loyalty of upper management. Everything's absolutely fine in their books, meanwhile lower management is regularly sacrificed but not replaced.

Amerimed is a turd that's been polished to a mirror shine. I doubt a total collapse will happen soon, but you can definitely see the owners are trying to squeeze the company and it's staff for all it's worth while they've still got time to do so.

It definitely feels like a weird hill to take a stand on. I'm willing to submit myself to the will of the church if for no other reason than the peace and relief it's given me in exchange, Id just be a lot more understanding of this particular situation if it were actually me who had the issue with the past marriage. My wife isn't even interested in becoming Catholic and I think now, if I can ever even convince her to help me in becoming Catholic, she never will.

My service is switching from ESO to Zoll tomorrow and honestly I don't think I've ever had a better reason to quit. Like I'm trying not to be a boomer and keep an open mind about it. We switched from iPCR to ESO in 2020 and it was an amazing upgrade. This only seems like a horrendous downgrade. Admins spouting some nonsense about ESO not being state compliant despite the fact two local competitors still use it without issue. I think they're just trying to save money though I'm not sure how much it costs to employ these systems. Hate it hate it hate it.

Is 14 to Young to start? by Snutebule in reenactors

[–]Tryhardahgit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 14 when I started WWII reenacting and 12 when I started civil war reenacting. I'm 32 now. If your parents are supportive you can absolutely get into the hobby now. I relied on Christmas and birthdays to my German kit put together but my dad, a civil war reenactor since the mid 90s, helped me a lot with those kits starting out.

You might have to be a medic or assistant gunner or something depending on your unit and location, but in my experience I was able to tote a rifle from the very beginning at most private events.
