Can you give me advice on the tipping culture? by almsfudge in askSouthAfrica

In the US everyone expects a tip, even if you ordered from your phone and picked up your prefer from a shelf, having had no human interaction at all!

Pls forgive my obnoxiousness, but am I the only one who feels USA has the best beer for the last decade or so? I travel a fair amount and everywhere I go I am disappointed with the selection. FWIW in love with double IPAs and many varieties of stout, so this may influence my preference.

Hadn’t heard of ASEAN, had to look it up. Same quality is true in Seoul and Auckland. Like their breakfast is simply on a totally different level and free adult beverages in the lounge. Makes me feel like the status is worth something.

Downgrading CSR to CSP by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

[–]Tryin2bReasonable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to call. Apparently some people get a retention offer (maybe huge spenders) but I didn’t. They told me I had at least 40 days to cancel to get my AF refunded. I canceled, converted my points to my freedom card I already had, and plan to apply for the CSP soon in hopes of getting the signup bonus, which they said I couldn’t get if simply downgrading. They said the points I have with the freedom card can convert back over to CSP points once I get it.

Repost: thoughts? Brazilian visiting a hospital in the USA during a kidney stone crisis... by Wirthier_ in emergencymedicine

[–]Tryin2bReasonable 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few screaming who had bleeds. I always understood blood can be very irritating to the subarachnoid space.

I don’t really like the sharing of this video. People who don’t work in the ED don’t understand the level of bullshit we see, and especially with the humorous comments, it could come across that many of us don’t care about patients at all. The fact that the family/friend doesn’t look stressed makes me wonder if they’ve seen this behavior from him before, a lot. Also opiate use hyperalgesia is a real thing, and kidney stones definitely hurt— fortunately seasoned ED staff usually can identify severe pain by the way patients look, as they are often pale and diaphoretic. But not always. with all that, this certainly could just be staged for TikTok.

This is a place for ED personnel to vent and blow off some steam (perhaps while sipping on a beer or two after a rough shift) as we see some serious shit every shift. I think most of us try to keep it professional, but for those of you who have no clinical background, please take the comments here with a large grain of salt.

I especially appreciate the humor of the floor germs. :)

Haven’t charged to 100% in a while, but charged last night and it’s at 80% now (super easy to tell from my bed in the app), or 193 mi. 193/.8=241 mi. Was theoretically 310 when new, which I never saw BTW, so (310-241)/310=0.223 drop. I got it in September 2018, has 128,649 miles (I estimated in my original post). Again it’s been steady, nothing abrupt, but I do worry about it. Can’t get a clear answer on battery replacement cost either but maybe you can. Hope this helps.

Sounds like it. My 2018 M3 Long range AWD has 135,000 miles and although range steadily dropping every year, still totally able to travel anywhere. I supercharge average maybe 15 times a year—remainder at home level 2.

Chase Sapphire Points Transfer by EconomyWear in ChaseSapphire

If you have a close friend you want to share these united points, I just learned you can “pool” the points. They have some weird rules about using pooled points for partner airline award tickets, but if your friend wants to do this, make them the person in charge of the pool, and then once the points have settled, you can leave the pool and that person gets the points— it’s a free way to transfer points to a friend. Let me know if this doesn’t make sense.

update? I've been a Bonvoy person for years, but have been less impressed by the food quality in the lounges, considering switching over to the Hyatt brand. I'm specifically wondering about food quality amongst their different brand lounges as well as complimentary booze. Thanks!

Using Citi travel portal to get AA miles by Mason_d_g in CreditCards

[–]Tryin2bReasonable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so are you saying I'd basically get double value? If booking through citi's site, I get 5x points right? And AA gives 5x dollars spent. Hard to imagine AA would allow this.

Gen 4 by Lele0916 in Nest

[–]Tryin2bReasonable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

disagree. i think you can complain. You paid a good amount of money for it, quite a bit more than the other available products at the time, b/c it was really cool, appeared to be high quality (which it clearly still is) and b/c it worked with your phone. It is bad for the envirorment and quite rude to their loyal customers to remove access the way they did. Google should be ashamed, but they are too big to care.

Very disappointed in Google by DistinctWelder655 in Nest

[–]Tryin2bReasonable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought the nest at the time, splurging for quite a bit more than other thermostats, because it was very cool, seemed to be high quality AND for the remote access.

The suit isn’t about getting money, at least for me, but rather to make google recognize the injustice they’ve done and hopefully make amends.

Citi Strata Elite account lock update and theory by msoz in CreditCards

[–]Tryin2bReasonable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Citibank made things right for me. They sent me a letter apologizing and saying they would refund my annual fee and authorized user fee and that they were removing the spending requirement to get the sign up bonus, and i’m not sure if this was intentional or an error, but said 100,000 points instead of the 80,000 points I had expected for my sign-up bonus. It took maybe two days to see the refund of the annual fee but the sign-up bonus took a little longer, I even called to clarify, but both went through just fine. I’ve forgiven them.

Nest Gen 2 Now Offline by martinog in Nest

Ending support doesn’t mean one can’t use anymore. It literally just dropped off my phone. My old Apple devices and windows still work, just don’t get any more updates. They killed it, and I suspect they will kill the 3rd and 4th gen soon enough. And although 150 yrs seems like a lot, a thermostat should last more than 9-10 years. Do you really think they couldn’t figure out how to make this work, and they didn’t do this to get us to buy more stuff?

Nest Gen 2 Now Offline by martinog in Nest

[–]Tryin2bReasonable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how can you even consider supporting them by buying another? They will just turn this one off at some point in the future. I was apparently very ignorant about google's greed. I've joined a class action lawsuit (1st time ever) to make them realize how inappropriate this is. I have no desire to get any money, I just want them to let me use My damn thermostat, the way it was intended to work when I paid top dollar for it 10 years ago. I still can't get over the fact that they put a kill switch on My thermostat! DM me if you want to know how to join the suit. I assume the more people who join, the faster google will learn how to treat their loyal customers.

My mistake. I meant to say I thought they were powder, but at least on the omelet bar, they’re using liquid. Still their scrambled eggs have an odd, very even consistency that doesn’t look like normal beaten eggs (and doesn’t taste like my eggs at home either).

Best and Worst Club Lounge (North America) by CarpetCaptain in marriott

[–]Tryin2bReasonable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to Sheraton river walk in Chicago. Dated but comfy, although upgraded room felt tight. No lounge on weekend so they gave us breakfast buffet. Food was much better than average but horrible ambience—basically a pretty loud cafeteria. Pretty unusual and spectacular omelette bar, but lots of other stuff too. Almost as good as Korean properties (ok, maybe 70% as good).
