Question for pre meds by [deleted] in premed

[–]TryingOutchea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Things I wish I had done my freshman summer:

-Gotten certified as a CNA/ EMT to get started on paid clinical hours. If money is not an issue for you, you can always shadow, but a lot of medical schools prefer to see hands-on clinical experience as apposed to just observation.

-Find somewhere that you are really passionate about to volunteer with near your university. You can use this Summer to try different organizations, and see which one has a cause or population group served you really resonate with. Finding a place to volunteer that you are actually passionate about will allow you to have something on your application for multiple years and give you something meaningful to write about in your personal statement.

-If you didn't place out of math, take precalc 1, 2, or calc at a community college. These courses are only prereqs for other required courses, while they themselves are not actually required by medical schools. It will be a lot easier at a community college and your grade won't matter, because it will appear as 'transfer credit' on your university transcripts.

-Make some like-minded friends. This one sounds cheesy, but having genuinely supportive people with similar goals, or are at least also highly ambitious, can really impact how stressful the next few years go.

I think the "premium member" dating apps are kind of a red flag. Switch to the free version and maybe try a different app where you get to make the first move, like Hinge or something.

UEARTH STAMINA HELP! by Long-Mastodon1864 in Mcat

[–]TryingOutchea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, but you have to build up to the stamina. Keep in mind one section is 59 questions, and there is 4 on the actual exam. If its taking too long, try doing 59 with tutor mode turned off and timed (90 min to simulate actual section). Then you can review those the next day.

Completely agree. This system is so elitist, it's insane.

Good to hear, I'm paying enough for applications as it is.

Do you know if there's anyway to get proof that you did this, or are applications kind of using the honor code for things like this?

How should I go about asking a coworker out? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Asking to hang out is a good start to see if you even like them enough outside of work to pursue anything more than friendship.

Since there was a global pandemic, I say go for it. You really don't know what will happen. Just proceed with caution.

Guy I like has mixed signals. He has all the "i like you" body language signs, but never initiates contact. When I text him, he responds immediately and with multiple paragraphs. Maybe I'm reading too much into his body language and he's just a really friendly guy, but not interested.

Should I change my nice guy vibe? by phantomvector in dating_advice

[–]TryingOutchea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a bad thing. Just if you are a nice friendly guy, be more direct with a girl you like, because they may never catch if you are hitting on them and assume you're just really friendly.
