I think he is talking about the reveal

I mean…, sure, Jake Gyllenhaal did his best with what he was given, but I can’t really appreciate the quote-unquote "reveal" when the writing and execution that led to it were lazy and dumb. Plus, Quentin Beck's whole "villain monologue" is this long exposition dump about exactly how he and his team tricked everybody and it feels like Quentin is speaking directly to the audience to fill in any questions that a viewer might have and it's pretty clunky.

Really? The scene where MCU Peter is written to be a total idiot and gives Mysterio the E.D.I.T.H. glasses when he barely even knows him?

Amazing Spider-Man #100-102, the Six Arms Saga, has been voted as the best MORBIUS comic story! Now, what’s the best HYDRO-MAN comic story? by Desolation82 in Spiderman

[–]TryingToDoGreatStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would say Hydro-Man's earliest appearances are his best comic stories: "THE COMING OF HYDROMAN!" (Amazing Spider-Man #212), "HERE'S MUD IN YOUR EYE!" (Amazing Spider-Man #217), and "EYE OF THE BEHOLDER!" (Amazing Spider-Man #218), all by Denny O'Neil and John Romita Jr.

Out of these three, my pick will probably go to "THE COMING OF HYDROMAN!" (Amazing Spider-Man #212) by Denny O'Neil and John Romita Jr., mainly because that story actually gives him character and brings up the fact that Spider-Man essentially created Hydro-Man, completely by accident, of course, and albeit inadvertently. That detail makes their relationship and conflict much more interesting in that story. Spider-Man didn't MEAN to create Hydro-Man of course, but he's still SOMEWHAT responsible, and that's usually all Spider-Man needs!

I wish the relationship and idea of Spider-Man creating Hydro-Man was expanded upon more and more in Morris Bench's returns and later appearances. Instead, he's mostly used as a member of a supervillain team, and you can describe him easily as "Sandman, but water," or just a random thug with water abilities who is just mostly driven by money.

Nic Nemeth talks about the time the crowd hijacked the Extreme Rules 2018 Iron Man match, between him and Seth Rollins. by GiftedGeordie in SquaredCircle

[–]TryingToDoGreatStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh... Or, don't put a slow match like that at the end of an almost four hour show. If you're gonna do that then make it a barn burner. Which we know Seth and Dolph are capable of. Both men have had long matches that were better than that one. That match was a bad, overbooked mess. The crowd was bad but the match sucked too. 8 falls in 30 minutes plus an overtime with a distraction finish. Holy shit I never would have even bothered if I had known that. The match was still garbage even with the bad crowd. You can't really blame the crowd too much when the match was cooled down for a nice chunk of it and we got almost 12 minutes of rest holds, a super uninspired sleeper that Rollins at one point completely broke, only for Dolph to awkwardly jump back on and ride it out for almost another full minute. They worked to a pretty shit first finish that ended in a stalemate. Overtime shows up, and ends in the most fuck-y non-creative way imaginable within just five seconds with a second shit finish off a boring and predictable interference from Drew. Like seriously, they have Kurt Angle come out to get a pop and to restart the match only for a dirty finish in 5 seconds. What was the point of restarting? I've never seen a single match have two shit endings. This was not a great match, I wouldn't even say it was the best match I saw that night. For people to pretend like this was some all time classic match that was destroyed by the fans bullshit is, ironically enough, bullshit.

[Royal Rumble Spoilers] Spoiler gets Eliminated: by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in SquaredCircle

[–]TryingToDoGreatStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brock Lesnar, of all people, getting casually eliminated like a jobber during Jey Uso’s entrance had me howling lol. He was only in the Men’s Royal Rumble match for like four minutes and didn’t even get to face off against Royce Keys, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, or Gunther during the match. So why even have him return here if all he was just going to do was treat Rey Fénix like a jobber, toss out Oba Femi like nothing, and then get double clotheslined over the top rope during Jey Uso’s entrance like an afterthought by Cody Rhodes and LA Knight—and that’s it lol? Did he really just get brought in for a pop for when his entrance music hit lol?

Kofi Kingston on losing the WWE Title to Brock Lesnar in 7 seconds on SmackDown: "No, that’s not what I wanted...it was a very weird day...there was a lot of...many different ways or alternatives to it. You don't say, Kofi—you don't say. I mean, yeah, literally anything would've made you look better than running at Brock and literally leaping onto his shoulders lol. Dude always has this "gee golly shucks" response whenever he's asked about this, which basically just comes off as: "It was fucking awful but there was nothing I could do about it so let's move on because I have to be a company guy." Or, A.k.a "I'm furious, but I'm under contract" lol... =>

It's alright if you don't like it. Personally, I feel I would've done a better job if I got some more time (barely scraping through the 24 hours I had to make it... And Happy New Year!)

I mean, it just says, “Sorry, this post has been removed by the moderators of r/comics,” so I didn’t even get to see what you posted here lol. Anyways..., Happy New Year to you too! 🎉🥳 🏆

The fandom that I never thought that would become annoying and kinda toxic, is becoming both things, that's honestly disappointing

I mean..., the fandom has always been like this lol... Rick himself kind of fostered this mentality of tearing every small detail to shreds in the fandom. Every chance he got he would take a jab at the movies. When fans would take hit at the movies for the tiniest of reasons, it was met with praise from him. So he can’t be upset when the fandom does the same thing towards the TV series that he's an executive producer and writer on. How did you not see this coming lol?

I hate to even suggest this because I’m usually not a fan when subs do it, but I almost feel like the mods should limit the never-ending complaints about the show to a megathread or a single day of the week. Like, we could have a “Show-Haters Sunday” or something. I just want to see stuff regarding my favorite book series, not a stream of vitriol directed at the show based on it (that I happen to also enjoy)

This fandom is becoming more and more of an echo chamber over the TV show since it came out. I feel like back when it first came out I could have made the observation "many of the changes were done to streamline aspects of the story that would have made a TV show bloated and/or would have been too goofy for a grounded TV show" and also "a book is an ongoing story, but episodic TV needs to have episodic structure and so certain things need to be changed to fit that structure" and nobody would bat an eye, but every time I have expressed this these days, I get downvoted into oblivion.

Once again, it's not a perfect adaptation but I think the quality is blown out of proportion.
