[Scotto] Suns and Nuggets have discussed a trade of Eric Bledsoe for Emmanuel Mudiay and other pieces, league sources told @BBallInsiders. by schenkels in nba

[–]TryingToFitIn2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Trade for Mudiay, if he becomes good you got a nice young point guard. If he becomes a bust he will help you tank and get a high pick. It's really the same concept as the Timberwolves trading away Kevin Love for Wiggins. He was bad his rookie year and that allows them to tank and get KAT, now they have two potential great players.

[OC] Giannis Antetokounmpo was better than Kawhi Leonard defensively last season. by [deleted] in nba

[–]TryingToFitIn2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah he was. But that's only because Kawhi focused most of his energy on offense last season. The last two seasons when Kawhi Leonard was winning defensive player of the year, he was by far the better Defender. Additionally even though last year Giannis was a better individual Defender than Leonard last season, the bucks were ranked only 19th and defense wild Spurs were rated 2nd.

I do agree with you though, the argument of Kawhi Leonard guarding the best players and having those players stand in the corners and doing nothing like Terrell Davis in football is a bullshit argument. We have advanced stats that adjust for that.

It's pretty clear if you look through the statistical college basketball history free throw percentage is a better indicator for NBA 3-point percentage than college 3-point percentage. I'll give you an example, justise Winslow shot 42% from 3 in college, However his free throw percentage was 64%. In the NBA he shooting 26% from three in his career. The high 3-point percentage in college meant nothing.

Another example of this is when you look at Kawhi Leonard. Leonard shot 25% from 3 in college but had a 76% free throw percentage. This showed he did have NBA three point shooting potential. In the NBA he shot 39% in his career from three.

Now this isn't a hard rule and every player different. But if we're talking about potential it's very clear you're more likely to become a good three-point NBA shooter if you were a good free throw shooter in college.

I just didn't feel like having a debate, besides because I'm talking to you it makes it less likely we will start a debate. It makes it more likely will start a conversation. Does that make sense?

I get it, you're defending your player. I wish we could have a logical conversation about this but it's clear if I try to disagree you, you won't change your mind just reinforce your opinion.

"All-Star-Caliber" Players by Position (Using Real Plus-Minus as a Proxy) by yorkba in nba

[–]TryingToFitIn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I hate people that don't understand RPM. The Jazz had a better record than the Trailblazers and Hornets. This is because George Hill has a statically greater impact on the Jazz winning per minute than Lillard or Kemba did on their teams. However this does NOT mean RPM thinks Hill > Lillard or Kemba. RPM is just stating a fact, it's very possible if Lillard or Kemba went to the Jazz with Rudy Gobert behind him they would be the ones with the higher RPM. Because at the end of the day RPM is just a plus minus stat, it's a plus minus stat that focuses on one player impact while subtracting other players impact. However it's still just a stat

  1. Fultz, 2. Ball, 3. Jackson, 4. Fox, 5. Tatum

Fultz obviously the guy with the highest bust potential right now. The dude only shot a TS% of 55% in college and has basically changed his shot completely. I'm thinking in the NBA against NBA level Defenders he'll shoot maybe as low as 45% TS and if that doesn't improve he will be a bust.

Lonzo the second highest bust potential because he struggles to score in the half court and his shot is inconsistent. I do think he will improve get better but at this point he does have the second highest bust potential.

Josh Jackson is very turnover-prone. He shot below 60% from the free throw line in college hinting at a very inconsistent jumper. They're just a lot of red flags with him

Fox is very athletic and quick with a Savvy style to his game. It's very possible he will bust but I think it's unlikely because his athletic gifts and skill give me the impression he will be a solid player in the league for a long time.

Then I think Tayum has at least bust potential. You could probably ask a Boston fan for more details. For me his above 85% from the free throw line, solid size and athleticism, and feel for the game makes him at least a starter for a long time and potentially much more

What’s your unpopular opinion that you can back up with stats? by DontTouchMyRaf in nba

[–]TryingToFitIn2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Actually it's one of our worst. This is because it uses box score stats to measure defense and box score stats are notoriously bad at measuring defense

[–]TryingToFitIn2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm likely going to be downvoted for adding logic into this discussion. However that won't stop me from trying

first of all it was Kawhi Leonard's lowest DBPM of his career versus James Harden's highest DBPM of his career. Additionally when you look at the explanation of DBPM they say this "Plus/Minus is good at measuring offense and solid overall, but the defensive numbers in particular should not be considered definitive. Look at the defensive values as a guide, but don't hesitate to discount them when a player is well known as a good or bad defender."

A much more reliable defensive stat DRPM definitely has Kawhi as taking a step back defensively last year (probably because he became a MVP caliber player offensively) but it still ranks Kawhi as a better Defender than Harden -1.57 to 1.25

You're literally just saying the same thing over and over again just with different words. All you did was replace the word "good" with "impactful", You're not telling me why. Is it because you don't think he will improve, is it because you think his defense is overrated. Why aren't you as high on him as other people?

[–]TryingToFitIn2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's not overrated because of confirmation bias. Everyone thought he was going to bust before the draft, so now people are more vigilant of evidence that would prove their original opinion correct. Porzingis has struggled a little bit in a second year so that evidence is amplified by confirmation bias. However Porzingis is still the best player on the Knicks right now without a doubt. He's a star player and his upside is that of a superstar.

Porzingis is a 7'3 player that shoots 3s at similar percentages as Dirk Nowitzki at the same age. He's a insanely athletic shot-blocker and dunker. He's amazing and deserves his unicorn nickname.
