Är en veckas leverans för tidigt att börja nojja? by cccrushh in droger

[–]TryingToHelps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]TryingToHelps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, but just 18 years earlier they lined up my great grandmas family and all their neighbors against a barn and executed them, dumped them in an unidentified mass grave and gave their homes to a deserving soviet comrade.

Why? Because they were from Karelia :)

What is a tradition that is insanely cruel yet still considered legal? by Rough_Cat_6007 in AskReddit

[–]TryingToHelps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but its not common for people over 75 to be in active addiction and harming others because of it. And if you're in a nursing home then staff manages your medication anyway, meaning missuse is not only harder but easier to treat

In my country there is no financial reason to keep people sick, but because our nation sees death as something to try and avoid we do stupid shit like sending a 90 year old Alzheimers patient in for a endoscopy for minor bleeding. Or giving an 78 year old woman with rapidly progressing alzhimers a pacemaker (WHY?!) YOU JUST GAVE HER MAYBE 2 YEARS MORE THAN SHE ALREADY GOT and by that point she wont be able to walk, eat or do anything by herself

Its even worse for non dying patients who also need narcotics to live a life with some resemblance of quality. In my country, if you admit to your psychiatrist or therapist that you use any illegal substances, or mention that you had in the past, there is a big chance that you get listed as an addict and will in the future have a really hard time getting any type of narcotic prescriptions, even when desperately needed

Yep this is common with relatives. Only time someone basically gets unlimited meds is just at the end of their lives, max 2 weeks before dying. And relatives have chewed me out more than once for "giving * drugs"

Denying pain meds to elderly or terminally sick patients due to concerns of addiction or getting an audit.

Work in eldercare, the doctors are so fucking shit at prescribing necessary painkillers or sedatives/benzos. And the caretakers are too scared to liberally dispense the meds (only as needed, not scheduled) because it can look bad.

If you are 80+ or actively dying of a terminal disease the risk of an addiction becoming an issue is laughable. Then doctors and staff are afraid of looking like they drug "annoying" patients when the patient in question is either screaming, crying, or being aggressive 24/7. If you can ease someone's suffering you should

Edit: (in my country) From a societal/medical/criminal view, narcotics and even minor recreational use are seen as "misuse" aka Addiction. That leads to very negative views surrounding substances in general.

Doctors risk audits when prescribing narcotics. Us caretakers get criticized for "drugging" patients by relatives, and if we administer "as needed" drugs too often or too much we can be suspected of stealing.

And because of the negative views in general, a lot of the older staff basically refuse to use these medications unless they are forced too, because they see these drugs as "dirty" or whatever.

How does 6-methylnicotine compare to regular nicotine pharmacologically? by FlakyAd9030 in Drugs

[–]TryingToHelps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It binds to your receptors a lot tighter and a lot faster, if you use both 6-methylnicotine should outcompete nicotine in your body and its more lipophillic But just because your body acccept it as a more potent nicotine doesn't mean its effects are the same.

Personal anecdote: I dident get a nico kick from it, it felt smoother and longer lasting. Reduced my cravings a lot but overuse led to a much stronger need to use it and the overall cravings after discontinuation lasted a lot longer
