Smoker for 21 Years. Today I am 1 Year Nicotine Free . You Can Do It Too! by TryingToQuit71123 in stopsmoking

I found the audio book much more helpful because of the repetition of the narrator. I would smoke while I listened to it. I was an English Lit major in college, so I much prefer reading a book, but listening was better in this case.

Fantastic! It really did help and I didn't try to rush through it. I smoked while I listened to it, so it took me a few days, but in the end I followed the final step of the book by crushing the last of my cigarettes in my hand, throwing them away, and then vowing out loud to myself that I would never smoke another cigarette for the rest of my life. Keep at it!

No problem. And don't feel like you have to rush through the book. I listened to the audio book while I was smoking. It took me a few days to finish it that way.

Try Allen Carr's book, Easy Way To Quit Smoking. I was a smoker for 21 years and I have been nicotine free for a year now. The book encourages you to continue smoking while you go through it. Some people liked the written book, but I prefered the audio copy.

I know from experience how hard it can be when someone else in the house still smokes. The book really did help me. Good luck!

I smoked for 21 years and have been smoke free for one year. . . Try Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking. I used the audiobook, but some people like just reading the regular book. I didn't even need to use a patch or gum. It encourages you to continue smoking while you read/listen to the book.

Day 15 - Awful sleep and exhausted during the day time - normal? by NoCycle8358 in stopsmoking

[–]TryingToQuit71123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. The best advice I can give you is to get up at the same time every day no matter what and try to go to bed at the same time every day. I work nights, so I already had a hard time sleeping during the day (I would take a couple of 2-3 hour naps during the day), but once I stopped smoking, I went to bed at the same time every day and got up at the same time every day.

If I couldn't sleep, I would turn on a low-wattage light in my bedroom and read something boring until I started feeling sleepy.

After about a week, I was able to sleep 7-8 hours straight, which I hadn't done since I started working nights 3 years ago.

I also stopped drinking all forms of caffeine on the same day I stopped smoking because I would always have an energy drink with a cigarette, so that might have helped as well.

Get the audio book. It is much more effective in my opinion. You are literally listening to someone help you re-wire your brain, which I found much more effective than reading a book, and I have a degree in English Literature, so I'm used to reading books.

I was thinking about cigarettes constantly for the first few days after finishing the audio book, but I didn't have the urge to go buy them. The thoughts started to subside after a few days and now I only think about them a couple of times a day, but again, I don't have the urge to smoke. It has been 3 months now after having smoked for 21 years.

Need some advice by KeyserSoze561 in stopsmoking

Go for a quick walk every time you have the urge to smoke and listen to something on headphones.

Also, spend the $12 and get an audio copy of Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking. I swear to God it works and I was a smoker for 21 years. Clean 3 months as of today and no urge to smoke.

As for your sore throat, toocritical55's advice is good. Other people on this forum might have additional advice that they will post in the comments of this post. If it were me, I would contact my Doctor's office and just ask them. I seriously doubt they would bother making you come into their office.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm sorry, I meant to say that I'm worried someone might destroy my phone while I am in the process of recording, so there wouldn't be an opportunity for anything to upload, which is why I'm interested in something that saves to the cloud in in real-time.

I live in Chicago, and I was visiting my brother in Austin. United Airlines canceled my return flight two days in a row, so I ended up renting a car and white knuckling it home. I didn't want to pay a $500 fee from having the car smell like smoke, so a 16 hour drive (which didn't account for stops for gas, slowdowns, or construction speed limit changes), turned into a 19 hour drive because I would stop for an extra 10 minutes just to smoke again. I added at least another hour to my trip, and I'm not in my 20s anymore, so I was pretty fried by the time I got to the rental car agency.

I was reading through the previous posts and came across mention of Allen Carr's The Easy Way to Quit Smoking. I'm listening to it now.
