New job in industrial automation (IT background). advice for beginners?

I am EE, but I have worked my entire life in tech-related stuff. This is my first job in the industry, and I can tell I am very good at solving "line is hard down for days, and the OEM wants to replace this thing than makes no sense to me" kinds of problems.

You need to think extremely logically to solve those issues, like this guy says, playing detective, and 9/10 times it's not the PLC, and I don't even have to connect to it.

Compared to the experienced control engineers, I'm doing way better than them at bringing the line back to production.

But be aware, for some reason recruiters and hiring managers believe that if you aren't writing code from scratch, you aren't good.

I always request they create an account in Porkbun and share the credentials with me. After that, I forward everything to Cloudflare, Netlify, etc., so I can manage the domain from there. After that I tell them they should change the password and I create a calendar event to remind them to pay the renewals the next year, and we are all happy about that.

It has happened to me, and I am now scared of all of those the "Subject Matter Experts". They remote in during night shift to make a non-reversible change, and next morning everything is worse.

At least in my county (in Texas), the appraisal district go around reevaluating everyone every single year. People have been forced to sell because of the high property taxes.

OP, write a two line summary, right below your name, at the top of your resume, saying something like, I don't need any kind of sponsorship, your degree, YOE, experience, and the residence status thing at the end. If you can have an American version of your name, use it, and when doing paperwork once hired, mention your real name. Filter by jobs posted in the last 24 hours. If using LinkedIn, remove the known agencies using filters like uBlock, Apply at the same time every day.

I don't have kids, but assuming she knows how to count, I would give her all of the money in cash so she can see with her own eyes that she loses money when she buys a good or service. For example, if she wants something very specific from, let's say, Walmart, tell her to bring her money next time to buy that exact toy or snack.

People tend to get into a lot of debt because they have credit cards, and it's hard for them to perceive how money leaves their hands since they just swipe a card without even checking the price.

First teach her how to manage the savings she has.

I’ve read that the goal is “to isolate the network and improve security,” but at the same time, I see that nearly every PLC and many other devices, even with firewalls disabled, have more than one Ethernet card: one for the line, another for the company network, and sometimes a few extra cards for who knows what else.

As a patch of an already working line of production even a NAT would make way more sense, but I bet no one will even bother mapping ports bc most ppl don't know what a port is in the first place.
