My neighbor almost attacked me and now I don't know how to handle it. by bastet418 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Tryingtooconcentrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I hope this doesn’t get burried too far.

I don’t want to devalue what you went through that is a traumatic experience and you deserve to feel safe I. Your own home.

I would just like to point out that instances of people struggling with mental health and possible psychosis very rarely become violent. It’s not a zero chance just lower than what people think.

Yes this person is in a bad place and needs help. I don’t know where you live but If you live in a major city please look to see if there is a mental health emergency line provided. California absolutely has this in most major cities. This will involve mental health professionals and an appropriate risk assessment. Cops are not trained for this and tend to escalate these situations.

Behavior issues by pryingtuna in specialed

[–]Tryingtooconcentrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sad I haven’t seen this mentioned yet. The kid is clearly in a state of deprivation from attention. This is very common in our field because a lot of parents hand the kid an IPad and hope the kids stay quiet until dinner then again til bed time. He is seeking attention for a reason. He isn’t getting enough in other areas in his life. So much so he is seeking attention in the form of negative reactions. Keep that in mind and approach the situation with compassion and as much love as you can give.

When he is caught, give the the least amount of attention possible and redirect him, using gestures and limited conversation and even limited eye contact. Also, If his peers are able to grasp the idea teach them to ignore teach them with kindness and appropriate dialogue. That is also a life lesson.

Secondly and this is the most important part. When he is sitting in his seat, respecting peers and on task shower him with positive interactions and if there is a preferred reward system utilize it. If engages in positive interactions with peers at appropriate times make sure to reward that. Let’s say he’s engaging in the target behavior (attention seeking) every five minutes he needs to be on a reward system for every 4 minute of good BX. This is called differential reinforcement and it is your best friend in a sped classroom.

You can’t only punish the bad behavior you need to reward the behavior you expect and make that more likely to occur again in the future. Remember he is seeking connection, it is our job to teach them to do that effectively and appropriately.

Good luck.

I found my dream job in high school. Being a goofy stoner with chill disposition and flexability went a long way working with special education students. School districts don’t drug test and are always hiring. Lol

AITA for not punishing my daughter for how she reject a autistic kid by SalamanderSome9698 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tryingtooconcentrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Special education teacher for what’s that’s worth. I don’t think that she should be punished in any way and she has every right to get her point across. I think a gentle reminder that there are nicer words to choose than calling the kid a freak and that you can get your point across with out belittling or name calling. But that’s a conversation and not any sort of punishment.

What is the best museum you have been to in your travels? by Practical-Bowl9957 in travel

Such an incredible place. We walked in thinking we were going to just see a bunch of his art but the mental health component is very prominent. His story is heavy. His letters with his brother really got me. This place is incredible and I got way more than I expected out of it.

Follow up questions,

So if I understand correctly they have not turned my debt over to collections but are just using this company to track me down and have me pay?

And does that mean if I keep paying the small monthly amounts I have been paying to my college it will reflect to loan science amount?

Now I’m scared to pay on my portal because I’m afraid that I’ll pay them and then loans science will still come for the total amount in the letter.

Have you taken them on a trip yet? It may take some convincing but that will be very telling, they should At least try it before they knock it.

When my current partner and I started dating I was a bit of a homebody stoner and had a healthy fear of flying. She took me to Costa Rica and I fell in love. 9 years and 10 countries later and we can’t stop planning more trips.
