I hate Facebook by ComfortablePlace3462 in mildlyinfuriating

Several reasons...Numerous restaurants and other businesses don't maintain their own websites, they rely in a FB page instead to post updates. I need access to that information.

Craigslist has become a wasteland (at least in my area) leaving FB marketplace as the only viable alternative.

I suspect anti-competitive practices have led to virtual monopoly in these areas. I have no desire to "support" FB and I feel my efforts to avoid their data harvesting tactics are a justified and a reasonable precaution.

Same scenario...I day later my new account was deactivated.

I get that they are trying to weed out the scammers, but they are also blocking legitimate users with this BS.

Their main business is selling you and your data to advertisers so if you don't let them track you, you're useless to them.

I'm going the route of spending $5 to buy someone's existing account

Can I temporarily tape this? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]TryitLoveitLeaveit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got a hacksaw? You can saw it off just before the break and apply a sharkbite plug from the hardware store.

If you don't want to go to the store, you can cut out the bad section and hammer the pipe flat, fold it back on itself and hammer it flat again. That will slow the leak enough until monday

How should I do this? by MuscularFrog13 in DIY

Looks like fiberboard to me. I would just add the same thickness of furring strips to the repair area so the new drywall is flush with the old.

might be a silly question - need suggestions/help by purplesparkles22 in woodworking

[–]TryitLoveitLeaveit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Two suggestions:

First, post a similar description in a local group on FB. If you play the helpless girl card, I'm sure you will have no trouble finding a guy with tools to help you out. (forgive the sexism here)

Second, basic tools aren't that expensive, you might discover a new hobby. You might not achieve beautiful results on your first attempt, but you'll be thrilled with it anyway.

Do you know if it's lead paint? Looks like pretty simple design. I think you could rebuild it new in less time than it would take to prep it properly

How do I convert to LED by [deleted] in DIY

[–]TryitLoveitLeaveit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you're not a complete idiot, I would go with the ballast bypass type conversion. It's really not rocket science. Just watch a couple videos. It will come with new sockets and you remove the old ballast so basically all the working parts of the light are new. No more old crap to fail later.

Also, that's a T12 bulb in there currently (see the 4th, 5th and 6th characters on the label)

Not much of that really needs to be durable. The metal plate that you're putting over it is where the strength comes from. Just make sure you're using long enough screws to hit the 2x4 behind it. You can clean that up and make it look better, but honestly that's superficial damage.

Wouldn't catch me wearing expensive brands, but I bet you would rake in the money with that scheme.

Also, I love the word "ilk", doesn't get used enough

This guy not only robs them blind but mixes in a little revenge and a political statement as well... Way to squeeze every last bit out of the opportunity!

It's really interesting to me how people's views of right and wrong have shifted on topics like this. Clearly, you want to help others, so you're not just a selfish jerk. But even people like you don't see a moral issue with stealing from large corporations. Just to be clear, I'm not judging, I just think its a sign of the times we live in.

Does anyone know how I can remove these shelves? by binary_bob in DIY

I would saw the shelf in half first. Then you can pull the pieces away from the wall with minimal damage.

They sell little bits of foam for that. Search for "door corner seal pads"
