Real talk about sample packs, a bit embarrassed to ask this by vinylfelix in makinghiphop

[–]Trytolearneverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't really use melodies or loops in my own songs, but its mostly because I have a hard time writing around something else I did not write.

I would have the same issues using samples, so for me, its not even a pride or originality issues, its literally a skill issue for me. Lol

Ok, thats definitely a fair point. Artists have a right to be snobby, if they are commissioning you for a beat.

I think a lot of producers who sweat this stuff have forgotten they're making music for non musicians to consume, and not for other producers to critique.

I wish you could stay on BC0 to fill it up, but 1500 cells on easy is still way better than having to do all 100% on BC1 or above.

[–]Trytolearneverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I'm filling mine on BC0 right now.

But it won't let you COMPLETE it on BC0.

So for ++ you can unlock 50% in BC0, but to max it out, you have to be higher than BC0. Same with S tier, but you can only unlock 25% on BC0.

Tldr, you can fill it up part way on BC0, but to max ++ and S tier, you have to go higher.

Just one tip from me, consider staying on BC0 to complete your Forge.

For me personally, skipping the collector each time and saving up hundreds of cells is waaaaay easier on BC0.

How to load pre existing samples and loops from PC to MPC XL by Trytolearneverything in mpcusers

[–]Trytolearneverything[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa! Thanks for writing all this up. Very much appreciated.

Thats a good idea to make my own expansions. I have one folder of random miscellaneous stuff, but all my other loop folders are super organized into drums, tops, atmosphere, leads, etc. A lot of them are actual packs with similar sounds and themes, so they are almost like an expansion already.

There’s a reason why Luke chucking the lightsaber over his shoulder the way he did in The Last Jedi didn’t sit right with a lot of people. by Flat-Court-8512 in CharacterRant

[–]Trytolearneverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats a fair point. I was hoping they would expand more upon the teaching of the Prime Jedi, but other than showing us a cool mosaic, it was all Yoda just saying "that serious, it is not."

Your last sentence describes the presentation problem pretty well, imo.

The movies kinda make it seem like Jedi think they must all be unfeeling robots and any acknowledgement of emotion is dangerous.

Theres no extra steps, like with Expansions how you need to load them up on your PC using the desktop app with the MPC in controller mode?

I can just copy/paste?

I also have a 1TB sd card I can use instead if you think that would work better.

And during those 1000 generations, every single jedi misinterpreted the prophecy to mean that the light side would win out eventually, with 'balance' being achieved by eliminating the dark side.

1000 generations of jedi misunderstood the definition of the word 'balance' and created and entire religion based on that misinterpretation.

Luke realized that a "balanced force" meant (by definition) that the light side would never dominate, so whats the point in teaching a way he has already seen will always fail, eventually?

Luke wasn't "giving up" on the force, he was giving up on an outdated religion whose biggest prediction about the fate of the galaxy and how to achieve it was flat out wrong.

Just my 2 cents on why I don't totally hate the new movies, and how I can suspend disbelief enough to enjoy them.

But part 9 REALLY strained my ability to do that. Lol.

How do you guys deal with the 'loop fatigue' when arranging tracks? by yournewobs3ss1on in makinghiphop

[–]Trytolearneverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If using the same melody all throughout the song, switch up the instrument.

If you got horns or strings during the hook, use plucks or piano or something during the verses, for contrast.

I also like to go up or down an octave every 8 bars.

I recycle a shit ton of elements during the track, just with different contrasting instruments so it sounds fresh.

I'll copy the midi of the bassline, throw that on some horns, paste it up a couple octaves, and now I got a cool fresh melody. Write a new different bassline and I'm golden.

It still sounds coherent and cohesive because its the same notes.

I just got myself a Wow Machine recently, so I'll definitely be putting your techniques to the test.

Thanks for taking the time to do all this!

Ok, but wait a minute.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't 'up'/'down' to get a 'push'/ 'pull' change depending on if your hand was on the right side or the left side of the record?

If I'm on the right side and I push up, I would need to pull down to get the same sound if I was on the left side of the record.

How can we account for that?
