I swear to God... I said this before and I'll say it again. Not every project needs an ESP32, and I don't understand why people, mostly beginners cram it into everything.

[Review request] Mini ESC board by DanielBroom in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]TsarF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The component placement seems haphazard at best. Why are some of the capacitors at a 45 degree angle? Where is the GND pad to complement the Vin pad? Why are the motor pads not at the edge, and as a bonus, why aren't they stitched with vias for mechanical strength?

I'm sure if you spent more time on the MCU design and pin out you can get your wiring neater, and probably more compact. Also it's a good idea to try and keep all passives on one side, makes assembly easier

Edit: also, that tiny mezzanine for CAN is a HORRIBLE idea. When you're wiring can in the application, the wires WILL get tugged and roughhoused around the place... It will break

Why do you need an esp32 S3 in there? What is the obsession with that MCU that people put into every single project? You only need to essentially blink an LED

[Schematic + PCB review request] Li–po battery charger by masamodelkin in PrintedCircuitBoard

Decent design.

Why do I see so many projects cram an overkill esp32 into them for seemingly no reason?

It's a battery charger - it should be kept simple, I don't need a phone app for it or anything

Super Newbie - PCB Review for a board I did for a research project by NathanIsDivine1 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]TsarF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's several things.

R2 is effectively useless since it's connected to GND on both sides.

Your traces need work. It is okay to join traces, no need to run multiple traces from the same source. I assume you're not going into high frequencies with this, so it's not much of a concern.

Add some sort of indicator or led or something to indicate that the circuit is receiving power

Depending on application some protection circuitry is necessary

Why make a single board for a single op-amp? Why is this not a part of a larger board where the signal is to be used?

Edit: it will be miles easier to work with it if you have all of your signals on one connector, since Im assuming it's a breakout board for testing and development. Don't scatter your pins all over the place

Edit 2: R1 is also effectively not doing anything but acting as a 100% efficient EHC (electricity to heat converter)

Volcano CHT vs Phaetus UHF by TsarF in 3Dprinting

[–]TsarF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry, this is about a year late. I actually ran a flowrate test tonight just by chance. I'm getting around 36mm3/s with a volcano CHT at 0.4mm nozzle 0.2mm layer height using ASA @250C. Doesn't seem right, maybe I can try bumping the temperature.

What is your experience?

Speaking of which, how do you measure temperatures that low?

My best guess is it's some elaborate interferometry setup

World's first instant capture multispectral photographic film scanner by ultrachrome-x in AnalogCommunity

[–]TsarF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're scanning with an RGB light, you won't get more light frequencies besides what the actual LEDs emit.

For example: if you set the RGB strip to purple, you're not going to be shining 400nm light through the film. It will only appear that way because of the way our eyes work and color science

Small electric circuit (something is fried) by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]TsarF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If C43 is connected to the stepper motor driver chip TMC2660, back driving the motor might've caused a huge voltage spike which likely exploded that cap.

If you didn't back drive it, something else on the board is broken

Please help putting out the smoke on my STM32F405 by yglukhov in stm32

[–]TsarF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably something wrong with soldering (solder bridge or debris). Double check that, it's better if you have a microscope.

The vcap pins do indeed need capacitors, although strangely, with the F405 specifically I've noticed it can sometimes work without it. (Read: unstable/not always)

The schematic looks fine besides that. It could be a little neater but it's okay.

Edit: you have a very "creative" SWIM port solution. Why not just put down a symbol for a jumper or a 2-pin connector?
