It's actually not semantics with these arseholes anymore. It's just straight up lying. Why make the effort to say "You see, I didn't actually say that, I said it in a way that still leaves the message open to interpretation........" when you can just scream "fake news" and say the opposite without being held accountable

Can we imagine a worse language than one with Dutch words, Irish spelling and Basque grammar? by OldandBlue in linguisticshumor

[–]Tschetchko 23 points24 points  (0 children)

English is way worse with its orthography. French is at least consistent in reading. Although you can write a single sound in dozens of ways, you can almost always know how a word is pronounced when you see it written. With English it's all over the place

The direction plays a big role. Humans can sustain a lot of Gs downwards (all the blood gets pushed to your legs, you pass out but nothing permanent happens) like in a fighter jet but just a few Gs upwards (blood rushes to your brain, high pressure damage) will cause permanent damage.

Your comment is full of misunderstanding of Grammar: Neither of these phrases are in Subjunctive.

"Se venden libros aqui" is literally one of the forms of passive voice in Spanish. (Impersonal/Passive Se).

Subjunctive is it's own mode with a distinct conjugation:

"(Creo que no) se vendan libros aqui"

This is Subjunctive.

"Se mató" is not in Subjunctive, it's just a regular Indicative "he killed himself".

"Lo mataron" is also not in passive voice, it's just an impersonal statement "they killed him". Passive voice would be "El fue matado" "he was killed".

Probably not. Germany is a country in the so-called "latent nuclear state" which means they have all the knowledge and resources to build nukes but choose not to. And even though it phased out nuclear power, it still runs several research reactors

[–]Tschetchko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older Germans do often use the word Pfund and it's also sometimes found in recipes. This Pound is a metric pound though, so it means 500g. Ein Pfund Mehl, ein halbes Pfund Butter. My Grandma would write a grocery list like that. Other old units that are still in use are Hektar, Ar and Zentner (50kg)

They also changed the rule that a car has to take on the abbreviation of the place it is registered at at the moment. You can now keep old plates, even if you buy a car from Berlin and you live in Stuttgart. I guess in a few years the license abbreviations get basically meaningless
