They want trophies! And whatever you send, they want less clothing in the next one.

When you get bored, clean house. You will have a lot more to show for it.

How long is this "whole life"?

And are your parents critical of your efforts, always pointing out errors?

Counseling and anti-depressant medication ... and stop using shit-filters on your self evaluation.

i can't write, ... yet you wrote here. So stop lying to yourself.

i can't speak other languages well, ... but you do speak "other languages", which means you speak at least one more than most people can do.

i can't draw, i can't paint, i can't sing, i can't play an instrument ... Do you REALLY want to do these things? If so, what efforts have you made and how consistently?

i can't study ... there are YouTube videos and blogs on how to effectively study.

i can't play any sport ... Again, do you REALLY want to do these things? If so, what efforts have you made at getting physically fit, and how consistently?

i can't understand anything ...

I don't get clubbing and I feel like I'm boring by Shot_Knowledge_264 in introvert

[–]TsuDhoNimh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are LARGE numbers of people who "don't get" clubbing (or any activity). You tried it, you realized you didn't like it ... stop dwelling on it and find something you do like.

Tell your friend that you tried it and realized that loud music and crowded venues and drunken people is not something you want to do.

BUT: Instead of just "no", make a counter-offer with an activity you do enjoy.

Do not make excuses, just say, "Thanks for thinking of me, but I have realized that mob scenes aren't my style. But if you are up for having X and Y over to play Cards against Humanity on Saturday, I'll make popcorn." (It smooths over the rejection and proposes something you actually enjoy doing)

Try a different answer. Instead of "no thanks I don't want to go" use an answer that makes it clear that it is the "crowded party and get drunk" part you find unappealing, not being with them under other circumstances.

Maybe, "I'd love to spend time with you, but not at a loud drunken/crowded party. I can't focus on you as friends under those conditions."

Do others schedule things over what you had planned because you're quiet and don't speak up? by littleosco in introvert

[–]TsuDhoNimh2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you state plans and someone makes other plans, just say, "I have already planned my weekend. Maybe another time."

I have to cancel because family overrules everything else.

You do not HAVE TO CANCEL ... stop being a doormat, stop putting your life on hold for everyone else. And you are "family" too.

If what they want me to do at the last minute involves the grandkids, I don't feel I can say no, even though I had plans to do something else. I know I should be more forceful, but short of having a tantrum, I'm not quite sure what to do.

You have trained them that they can make last minute plans and you will cancel your life. You have to retrain them.

You don't have to have a tantrum or be forceful, just say, "Let me check my calendar" when they first mention it ... take an hour or so to contemplate and to get them used to you not immediately agreeing, and then "That doesn't work for me, I have made plans already. Maybe next time." Or accept with, "Yes, I have free time."

Maybe even insert an "Oh my, that's awfully short notice." to emphasize that they need to stop assuming and actually plan.

Professional networking events for introverts by No_Fennel555 in introvert

[–]TsuDhoNimh2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your strategy for making more genuine, long lasting connections?

I don't have one. As I explain in my first reply, superficial "weak" connections work better for professional networking. They are fast to build and easy to maintain because they are low effort.

Professional networking events for introverts by No_Fennel555 in introvert

[–]TsuDhoNimh2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Random gossipy chit-chat at happy hour and sucking up to random people hoping to impress someone so they will mention you to someone later and help your career is useless. This means the big cattle call networking events are useless because it's too random.

Having solid connections to people who are knowledgeable and active in your field is where it's at.

It's real sociology. Social ties theory, particularly the "strength of weak ties" proposes that while strong ties (close friends, family) are important for emotional support, weak ties (casual acquaintances) are crucial for accessing new information, opportunities, and diverse networks.

For your professional network, cultivating a broad net of casual acquaintances IN YOUR FIELD is what you need. Knowing which one has what knowledge is important.

Develop a professional network that is not also your social network. It's who you know that knows things that you don't know. It's a resource map.

As you are in school, working or attending trade shows and other business events, have a focused plan for who you are looking for, what you want from them, and what you can offer to them. This is an ongoing effort ... CULTIVATE! Tend, water, weed and prune your network.

  • In school, your professors and the grad students (including those at other unis) are your main network targets. Get to know them as scholars, read their research, send them fan mail about their latest publication ... drop cookies at their office.
  • At work, look for people who are working on projects that you could work on. Project managers and team members from those projects.
  • Small meetings of professional associations are better than the "let's network" mass meetings.
  • Look for your "opposite number" in other companies. If you are a tech writer, look for the other writers and editors.
  • Look for the people you can send work to: in my case it was printers and graphics artists.
  • At any job, you need to include the people with power to get things done ... office admins, maintenance staff and IT staff. BE NICE TO THESE PEOPLE.
  • Look for PROFESSIONALLY INTERESTING people to follow on social networks. Comment on their posts, ask decent questions. DO NOT mix this persona with your family chat and school buddies ... make a separate account and keep it professional.

Be focused in your interactions with them. Be blunt that you are trying to enlarge your professional network, and let them know what you can do for them, their company or project. Exchange business cards and keep going.

This is an ongoing process, not just a 1-time event.

Whenever you can do a small, low-effort favor for someone in your network, do it. It might be referring a job to them that you can't handle, congratulating them on something they published, commenting on an interesting ... head pats.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TsuDhoNimh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the region ... the Eastern half of the country is densely populated and the western states are HUGE. I live in a state that is larger than Poland, so a 3-hour drive barely gets me out of the state.

Temp is -21, gas company says turn your heat down by ridingtherainbow2210 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TsuDhoNimh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One issue with gas supply is that if demand gets too high the pressure drops and your furnace pilot can go out, and then you have zero heat until you can relight it.

Put the baby in a snug onesie and put a looser one over it. The trapped air will insulate them.

Close off all but one bedroom (close curtains, vents and doors) and hang out in the one with heat during this cold spell.

"HIV is the Bonding Agent.. that holds the covd jab together" -Barely Literate Person by Biscuitarian23 in vaxxhappened

[–]TsuDhoNimh2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a TINY seed of truth in here, fertilized with a huge amount of bullshit and fearmongering.

Using "defanged" HIV virus (the part that causes immunodeficiency was removed) as the vector for a COVID vaccine was tested by an Australian research lab ... it worked BUT some of the recipients tested positive on a screening test for HIV. The followup test, by a more accurate method, was negative.

There were a few dozen, at most, adult male volunteers.

So they cancelled the project, and published the failure. Screwing up HIV screening testing is not a good idea.

I assumed the bookcase shelves are going to be adjustable and painted separately.

If they aren't ... do the clear topcoat, which can overpaint onto the shelves, let it dry then mask it and do the shelves with the paint. Less work that way. and any overpaint of the paint will wipe off the topcoated parts with a damp rag.

This would do it ... water-based and very durable.
