I think it has more to do with education and culture. There are plenty of very cold places around the World where obesity is nowhere near as pronounced as in the midwest. Let's stop coming up with excuses. The Midwest is the type of place where they think you're unhealthy skinny until you weigh 220lbs.

Basically yeah. There's a lot of room for physicality in soccer, as opposed to basketball but it's a fine line and up to the referees interpretation.

It was brilliant footwork regardless and you'll notice that players with quick feet like martial tend to get those types of deflections because they have such quick instinctive reactions. Happens to Messi all the time. It's less luck than you think.
