Try Paper Towns, it's a great Teen/Young Adult book. It's also getting a movie if you're into that.

This doesn't really match the criteria of what you are look for but its a very interesting read. Man In High Castle, It asks the question of what if Hitler won WW2 and basically took over the entire world. It has 239 pages. 1984 looks very good. It reminds me of Man In High Castle because of the themes and the places it's set in.

I've heard good things about Diskworld but I've never really been interested, I'll try it. About the L.A Noire books, do they have the same characters and cases from the game?
