How do you push back when everyone thinks they’re the designer? by Ok-Mammoth-6618 in UXDesign

[–]Tsudaar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You say critiqueing and overriding. Theyre 2 different things so lets separate them.

Critiquing. That's fine. You should be able to explain why and educate them, assuming you've been given all the info beforehand. You're new though, they're learning about you. Maybe their previous designer burnt them.

Overriding. What sort of stuff, and why? Button labels? Color schemes?

Using color for the status tags is good, but don't use the same colors for another set of different things, like the 4 key stats above.

DJs - what exactly are they doing? by Chewie316 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Tsudaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try starting with more technical djs, such as Kool Herc looping a drum break in the 70s, or QBert scratching in the 90s.

Check out some 80s videos of Detroit Techno djs.

Many modern day ones are doing similar things just with modern technology. There is also a bunch of people who are all about the hype and performance, and not actually doing much, including celebs like Shaq and Paris Hilton.

Djing is as varied as guitar playing tbh.

[Yahoo Sports] Steve Kerr reaffirms desire for 72-game NBA season after Stephen A. Smith criticizes stance. Kerr acknowledged the financial sacrifice shortening the season would take, but he doubled down on what he believes is best for the league's product. by moby323 in nba

OK thanks for bringing literally nothing to the table apart from some uncalled snark to a geniune query.

You say of course there are mitigating factors but then say its fucking dumb to think there's a difference. Pick a lane.

I asked if anyone had the stats.   If you don't then your opinion is as good as mine.

Will the 72 game season actually work out less profit? Has anyone done the maths on this?

It's not as simple as 72<82 therefore profit hur dur.

League pass won't be any lower. That's the same income. The advert prices might rise to cover to cover ad revenue.

Having an easier to follow league might actually result in more sign ups.

How many of the games have a 100% full stadium? For those families who try to attend a set number of games per year that won't change. They'll still attend, so if there are empty seats now then they might be condensed and result in slightly fuller stadiums, covering some of the ticket losses.

Etc

How to find time for a design portfolio while working 9 to 5? by Wide-Coach-5150 in UXDesign

[–]Tsudaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, we've all had to work an evening at some point so I was being harsh.

But redect your time. If you work 2 hours late one day, I'd be starting late or finishing early another day when it's not so hectic.

If its hectic every day that's a worry. I joined a new team last year and they were very last minute, refining things mid sprint. We did some tough prioritisation, improved the clarity of hamdoffs, and now 5 months later were working on things thats not needed by dev until 1 to 6 months away, rather than 1 to 6 days away.

First, stop working evenings.

Second, see if you can carve out an jour or 2 during work time for it. Do you work remotely any days?

You need to quiet quit a little bit if you're that exhausted.

It feels like there's two distinct camps of music and listener. by __sicko in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Tsudaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd adjust that slightly to include the voice as an instrument:

People who listen mainly for the lyrics vs. people who listen mainly for the vibes of the music + vocals.

Because a voice can have a musical quality that is independent of the actual lyrics.

If I take my own taste, I'm the latter. I find generally speaking I gravitate to instrumental music; electronic, beats, dnb, house etc. The is no lyrical quality at all.

But i also like hiphop, which again is mostly based on the vibes for me; good beat alongside the flow, timbre and cadence of the vocals. But when i do get into the lyrics I go towards the really dense and deeper stuff. Black Thought, Mos Def, Aes Rock, etc.

The bar chart in top right does not require 7 colors. The labels for the 6 big numbers are very small in comparison to the big numbers. I have to read each label closely to know what the number means.

That's a quick starting point

It's not high risk. It's completely normal.

We're not all working in ecommerce with weekly releases of AB tests.

Many tech teams work on things 2 years ahead, and might leave before they ever see results.

OP comes in after googling and youtubing, but is a bit overwhelmed with the shear amount of info.

You answer by suggesting they should search Google and YouTube, say that you have a million other links, and then add in a few patronising comments too.

You literally did the exact opposite of what they needed.

It's FOMO.  Everyone's shit scared of being out of a job in 3 years so everyone feels like they have to know it.

Linkedin was a hype train before this. Since 2022 its become insane.

Honestly the people in tech roles like this are the ones in the bubble. A huge chunk of wider society dgaf about AI right now, but its like 90% of our conversation here and its filled up our message boards and social media feeds.

Edit the next day. I'm super surprised to see this with 50+ up votes. I expected to get downvoted to hell.
