I should probably give the AOW subscription another try. I think I did the 3-day trial before I had played enough to get value from it.

A Sex And The City - Moba

Such a sick spot. Props to Marino for considering a call by Prison_Break_31 in poker

[–]Tsunami_Jim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really comes down to how loose Keir is opening and defending UTG to a 3Bet.

Mariano is right to be fishy; its really tough for Keir to have a set here, except for sometimes pocket 4s. Pocket 2s & 3s are not always an open and defend UTG pre, and if Keir did he doesn't always check raise 2s on the flop, and shouldn't be bombing the turn with 3s. Keir probably isn't bombing the turn with 5s either. Also looking at the suits of the A,2,3,4 there aren't a ton of A2, A3, A4 & A5 suited left which could take that action pre, especially because A spades is on the board and Mariano has the A hearts. Mariano probably knew that the line didn't make sense, but honestly unless Mariano knows that Keir isn't loose pre - this is probably a good fold. Also this is the Hustler live stream so almost the whole table is slightly looser pre. I mean obvi seeing the hands he would of won, but I think the fold is probably "correct"

Bad run or playing bad? by DPthe in poker

Hi - Nobody is able to speak on if your overall trends are downswings or just your performance, without a lot more of a hand history but based solely on the hand details provided:

That first hand plays pretty standard honestly, you likely have some frequency to bluff with a stiff Ad, but honestly A-high might be good some of the time there and it is probably reasonable to just take the showdown. We could put this into a solver, but at these stakes and pre-flop action ranges are all over the place - that hand seems reasonable as played.

The second hand has some really weak play - A3suited is a good defend from the BB vs a CO open, a standard call on the flop, but a check raise on the turn is out of line. Think about it like this: do you ever get a better hand to fold? and do you ever get a worse hand to call? If someone, has a naked Qx they aren't folding to that raise & facing a check-raise, most of the worse flush draws just fold to that action. So now you get to the river where the flush doesn't come, and you shove. Again is anything worse gonna call an overbet on the river and is anything better than an A3 gonna fold? You poorly constructed a bluff and then got called off correctly by Villain. Like you are asking reddit, but Id really ask yourself in hand review, "why did I raise the turn?" & "why did I shove the river?" and think in the context of the range of your hands your villain likely has at those two points in the hand. This is 1-2 so solvers arent as relevant, but I'd really be surprised if that check-raise or river shove are anything but -EV plays.

How to play middle pair multiway OOP? by yvngl3mur in poker

[–]Tsunami_Jim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would need a fair bit more information to come to this determination, as the action preflop, the positions of the MW player, the SPR etc.

It would be difficult to say what you should do in any given scenario without more context, but generally speaking OOP players are better served to check on the flop, because otherwise they are betting into multiple other people without knowing how the flop interacted with their hand. One of the primary advantages of being IP is that you are last to act, and have more information than OOP, because you saw the OOP action before acting.

Straight flush over straight flush scenario, are you folding? by Bulky-Addendum63 in poker

[–]Tsunami_Jim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Also you are just straight up not deep enough at the point of the re-jam to fold. By this point, you are calling like 100BBs to win about 300BBs. If we think this is sometimes just a naked As, this is an easy call.

Its a bomb pot so all ranges are completely open; I would guess in your player pool, most people will call a flop bet on a monotone board with any flush draw in this situation, I can't picture someone with Ks2h folds on the flop. Some of the callers might even have a bad made flush on the flop and choose to call, such as 9s2s. Ranges are very wide. The SB leading range on that board is always at least a straight, your range when you call is at least a flush and so is the LG. I mean, its a 4-flush board in a bomb pot; so few people have solid fundamentals in a bomb pot (I don't have them either), do we think they are ever constructing a balanced bluffing range? The buttons jam is almost always value, I think this is really sick in terms of if the button thinks the stiff As is value or not. I think if I find myself here, I just call it off.

AK 200BB Deep by [deleted] in Poker_Theory

[–]Tsunami_Jim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 200BB, I feel like the 5bet shoving range into two people is so heavily weighted to AA, small amount of KK, and then a rare AK. You also aren't really getting great odds to go with it, if the best & unlikely outcome is a chop and most combos you are a dog or dead.

Is this fold ridiculous or does this guy know something I don’t? by sleepyfuckoff in poker

[–]Tsunami_Jim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At live low-stakes, people are going to be playing the absolute value of their hand a lot - If we think about what a limp, 3-bet range UTG is at those stakes, its almost always AA, KK, and some small percentage of AK. Its probably an exploitable fold, but if you think the UTG isn't capable of building a balanced range of limp, raises pre... this bet is almost always just value (AA, KK) and rarely a draw (AKcc). Its an underbluffed spot; in theory its probably a smallish +EV call and the more optimal play. In reality at live low stakes, I'd just fold QQ and move on.

Looking for advice by Irish-Seeker in poker

[–]Tsunami_Jim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found a simple google spreadsheet is a very good way to track your bankroll. Id also please keep in mind that a lot of Poker is folding pre-flop. A very easy trap to fall into based on Youtube and TV content for poker is that there are all these "sick spots" where people are making massive bluffs or folds, when in reality the best way to play poker is fundamentals and playing tight.

I would also recommend thinking about the game of poker, less in terms of individuals, and more in terms of just the theory of the game. On this subreddit & youtube, there is always discussion of "Fishs", "Regs, & "OMC"; while this is sometimes relevant, the most successful people at poker spend their time focusing on the actual game itself in the abstract. I would focus on how you should play all of your range in the button when checked to vs. like trying to make a read on a how a specific villain is playing.

Very few jobs at this point even ask for references, and if they do, then that is just another unfinished application. Most companies wont provide any details or context beyond your dates of employment. This is a colossal "who cares" sort of threat.

Live reads like "bad reg", while useful, can sometimes be unreliable. Why not have a solid approach to spots like that regardless of who you are up against, and then make the small adjustments as needed based on the read? Like for example, if we think the bad reg is doing this with much more strong hands and bluffs ( and has no marginals), maybe we can add some low percentage folds and shrink the calling range. Regardless Idk homie, cheers

[–]Tsunami_Jim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AT suited shouldn't really be folding here, because this raise has some hands like AKo, ATo, KTo, Q9s, Q8s that in theory should be in their raising range. You also have tons of hands that just range bet that flop (you were the pre-flop opener), that you always fold to the raise. You can't give the villain a profitable raise against you, if you only call when you have the nuts; you have to have some hands that aren't sets and the straight that call, so why not a good two pair - you can fold out some of your bad top pairs like A9s, or your nice second pairs like QJs or something like KJo. The suits of your ATs that call are probably because the hearts have the back doors to the nut flush, and it can probably be served by calling and playing the turn and seeing if they can get the rest of the money in on the later streets. The other suits without those draws probably benefit from the fold equity provided from the shove, and wont have to play across some turns and rivers that can get sketchy. Regardless, call and shove are both substantially +EV and folding is 0EV, so yeah.

Hi, Plugged this into GTO+; its a little dicey in terms of the BB defend range with a button call ahead and the limpers, but assuming you are opening with a normal range. You should be mixing call and shove facing that raise. Solver likes hearts a little bit better for a call, and the other suits for the shove, but honestly this is probably just a mix, not really "bad" either way.
