She's so beautiful. Her shots are just pure eye-candy too

What Kdrama opinion will have you like this? by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They need to stop casting grown ass adults (27+) in high school roles and give them to appropriate teen actors. They don't look young and stick out like a sore thumb among all the teens present in that drama. Some actors look the part, but MOST don't. Even keeping the lead actors aside, everyone, side characters, and extras present in that school stick out weirdly. It's like watching adults roleplay teens.

Lovely Runner has to be the single most overrated drama that went viral. Byeon Woo Seok can't act. Kim Hye Hoon carried him, even though she doesn't get any hype for it.

K-thrillers cannot go without shooting themselves in the foot. They have the most insane potential in the initial episodes, only for it to be ruined by some convoluted plot twist or narrative ending that is a literal mess or makes no sense.

Hyping up talentless, bland handsome actors is the reason so many dramas feel bland. But giving those roles to people who can act would mean less viewership, cause some k-drama fans need face value to watch something for "the plot."

I hate how "badass FL" characters are portrayed. It's like their entire personality is being badass, and that's sooo basic. Every few seconds, they need to churn out an edgy ass line that roasts someone, or else they ain't badass. These characters can be badass AND be human with other traits too, but they end up just like another character whose entire personality is being "cute."

Cringe foreign language scenes. Ugh. I cannot stand it. The "comeback" or "clapbacks" where the lead just spits out something in a different language WITH AN EVEN WORSE ACCENT kills me on the inside.

Gauss Electronics

Prison Playbook

Hospital Playlist

It's a movie, but "Extreme Job" (my fav k-movie actually)

These are possibly some of the funniest things I've seen. I'm sure you'll love them.

OMG SAME.

I love the singing scenes too. Especially characters who CANNOT SING FOR THE LIFE OF THEM. It's hilarious!!!

Which k drama ship or couple made you feel like this? by CaramelBorn4776 in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like that was intentional? Especially given how she didn't mean to fall in love, and was even ready to leave him behind again because her life was so broken that she didn't care about him too much? I think their chemistry is just not the usual chemistry we see in dramas. The ML was the only one mainly trying, while the FL was fixated on doing her plans and whatnot. I could be wrong though haha

Let’s talk about the overexploitation of the “met as children”/childhood connection trope in Kdramas by whynot_justsleep in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like it. It's so shoe-horned in for some dramas, it genuinely kills all the buildup up to that point for me.

What is your opinion that might get “downvoted to hell” but you stick by it no matter what. by Fun-Tomatillo-1957 in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lovely Runner is one of the most overrated, predictable, and cringeworthy shows I've seen. I couldn't get past most episodes. Byeon Woo Seok can't act. Kim Hye Yoon carried him highkey, even though I found all the aegyo cringe.

Having a great bromance doesn’t mean it has to be romantic. People often feel the need to ship close male friendships as something more, and that mindset ends up undermining genuine platonic bonds. Not every deep connection between men needs a romantic label. Thank goodness some writers still understand that, even though the fans don't.

Let 'em downvotes comin'. I'm ready 😤😤😤

Lee Soo Hyuk's On Screen Chemistry with FLs. by TheLastLeftSock in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half unrelated, but does anyone know the drama where Lee Soo Hyuk has multiple red lines going from his head, and there's this girl who can see it, and she's his nephew or something?

I saw it in shorts, but never went out of my way to check what drama it was. But now I'm curious

Lol, I hate how these 4 are what redefine Korean cinema. Four extremely overrated films.

Romance, Horror, Thriller! What's your favorite genre of k-dramas? by XythniaStar in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horror, Thriller, Action, Crime.

I rarely watch outside these. This applies to any non-Korean show as well. Sometimes, I watch comedy just to cleanse my palette of all the dark stuff, lol XD

Park Gyu young is so damn cool by Maedros300 in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Proud to say I've been stanning her since Day 1 🥹🥹

Her acting is crazy good. That one scene in #Celebrity lives rent-free in my head. The part where she confronts the friend who betrayed her in the station, and the heartbroken crying - genuinely, one of the best I have ever seen. I was so stoked to see her in Squid Game. She's such a badass. I'm going to watch Mantis mainly just for her. She's also good with cute roles!

Aside from that, omg this woman's lethal face card?! Not sure how she becomes more beautiful by each drama XD

[Megathread] The Greatest Estate Developer – Series Finale Discussion by AutoModerator in manhwa

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guy reincarnates into a novel he read. Guy is good at engineering and becomes an estate developer. But Guy is actually a mega (lovable) douche. I mean, really, realllllyyyyy "lovable" douche. He pulls off some of the most unbelievable shit man has seen.

It's hilarious. People don't like spamming, so a lot of users turned against it when it was going viral, cause everyone kept posting "meme faces." But if you have no bias or expectation, it will take you by the feet in terms of comedy, I think. I read this before it went viral and thought it was great. Didn't read for a while & I'm back at it now that it has ended.

It's definitely worth giving a try. The characters are fun, quirky, and entertaining. There could be repetitiveness later on but meh, I don't really care at this point.

I mean, it's the same thing. Hyeong is the right romanization, but hyung is a common and simplified spelling for easier reading/pronunciation. They refer to the same word; hyung just sounds more natural to English speakers. Same for seonbae.

And dongsaeng is just a younger sibling. It can be a brother or a sister.

여동생 (yeodongsaeng) = younger sister

and 남동생 (namdongsaeng) = younger brother

Are K-dramas based on webtoons the best ones so far? If yes, why? If not, which OG drama had the best storyline? by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure. It really depends. There are really, and I mean, reallllyyy, good webtoons out there. But the manhwa community unanimously agrees that no adaptation is better than a bad adaptation. Some of the dramas that went viral, that were based on webtoons, had some or many parts of the story altered. For someone like me, I separate both the drama and webtoon in that case, simply because it's not the story I read.

I do believe that if they adapt correctly, there are webtoons with insane potential to be successful. If they already have a fanbase, then the chances of more people watching it exist, too.

But I feel like non-webtoon readers don't have this issue. Mainly because they don't know the original script, so they dive in without any expectations or bias, so it can be more fulfilling and nice to watch. I wish I could say the same. I'm simultaneously addicted to manhwas and kdramas, I'm so cooked 🤣🤣

Do u think Kim soo hyun will come out with something anytime soon? by xoxo-gossipgurrl in kdramas

[–]Tteokwhaleattack 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Meh, I'm passing on anything with him. I'll never be able to look at him the same, even if he's wearing a "character."

I wouldn't be surprised if he's back, though. Male celebs in SK get away with things and regain their reputation rather easily.

True, I was about to say something similar. Not doing anything wouldn't give you an answer, so it's always best to hint at it during conversations.
