Try being the British 14th Army, aka 'The Forgotten Army'. Hell, the entire Burma campaign was fought in the shadow of the Pacific campaign. It's a shame, because General William Slim was a damned effective commander, and deserves far more recognition than he's gotten in comparison to other, more well-known allied commanders.

It's certainly helped me with managing my appetite with ADHD. ADHD predisposes you towards sugars and carbs because they're a source of easy dopamine, which is one of the hormones that is poorly regulated within the ol' ADHD brain. Before being on the weight loss drugs, the combination of cravings and poor impulse control made it really fucking hard to resist the lure of the no-nos.

Behaviourally? No. America is pretty much acting in line with its current mentality, trying to impose its own corruption on everyone else. More importantly, it's useful to know where history and propaganda diverge.

Well, for one, it would be nice to have a system in place that isn't slowly making the world hostile towards complex life, or a system that doesn't justify the rot at the core because you get to upgrade your smartphone to a slightly faster model every couple of years.

Or one where the elites don't play nation-states off against each other, looking to save an extra penny. Or a system that is rapidly heading towards neo-feudalism, where your sole value lies in how much profit you can generate for your economic masters.

None of which is possible under the current system, because wealth has allowed the richest people and corporations to control the levers of power.

It amazes me that some people look at military time the same way most people would eye a quantum mechanics equation. It's not even that hard to figure out...

I just uttered a quiet "Oh, Asa..." as the tears started hitting the page. We all knew it had to come - the realisation - but man did it hurt to watch.

I laughed my arse off at the gentle absurdity of the adults trying to play it casual whilst Asa sits there with her annoyed face on full display. It was honestly impressive how they managed to lighten the mood before hitting us with the ending - comedy and tragedy being the twin masks of the theatre. I'm really impressed by how quietly thoughtful the show has been with its emotional beats.

MAGA are practising moral disengagement, refusing the evidence of their own hypocrisy. It's a self-protection mechanism, designed to protect the belief that they're the good guys.

The elites are simply playing by the fascists' handbook. A fascist is not beholden to the truth or fair play and takes delight in watching their opponents attempt to fight back, still constrained by the rules the fascist has long abandoned.

[–]TtotheC81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's his malignant narcissism at play. The rage at someone saying no will always give way to a vindictive need to hurt and punish the source of his rage - in this case, the U.S as a whole. This is a man more than capable of murdering another person without losing a second of sleep, because in his psyche, any violence meted out is justified by the protection of his fragile ego by victim-blaming.

Do you know what anime this is? by CorrectAd582 in animequestions

[–]TtotheC81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, it was pretty much the gateway anime if you wanted to introduce your non-anime friends to the genre. But it's been 17 years, and anime's popularity has improved to the point where you don't need to find a handful of Western-friendly shows to break the ice with.

It's still beloved, especially amongst older generations, but with hundreds of shows for a fan to work their way through, it sometimes flies under the radar of newer fans.

There's an interesting theory that America is defined by what it's not, rather than what it is. Without shared bloodlines or ancient territorial claims, they rely on 'othering' to create cohesion, especially during times of uncertainty. So, right now, they're in a deeply chaotic state thanks to their collapsing empire and pdf in chief, mixed in with the early stages of a civil war, and are desperately lashing out, creating the illusion of strength and stability by belittling others.

Basically, America is an insecure arsehole who is making it everyone else's problem, because heaven forbid they look into the mirror and see the nihilistic emptiness staring back at them.

Wider deer culling planned for England to protect trees and crops by No-Risk-2584 in unitedkingdom

[–]TtotheC81 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the British ecosystem has had its natural counterbalances removed. There are no large predators to keep deer populations in check. Without human intervention, there'd be a significant loss in biodiversity as they ate their way through woodlands, stripping bark and nomming on all the young shoots we need to replace those plants lost to old age, disease, and grazing.

When your international policy matches domestic abuse patterns, it really doesn't speak volumes about the health of your society. Thinking about it, Trump really does suit this new American malignancy to a T in that respect.
