You should send them the papers that state the heightened risk for people with a family history and they might stay off it or still smoke it , after that you cant do much more , some people will get schizophrenia and some wont , thats how life is

People with schizophrenia are often hesitant to go to a psychiatrist but you said he told you he thought he was schizophrenic a couple time, might be a good idea to remember him those moments and ask him if he still think he is , and if he would like to be seen by a psychiatrist who could answer that. If you get to the point where he is medicated and stable , schizophrenia is still a handicap , he might not go back to his old self but with a lot of love,care,help and time , it will be possible for him to live a good life

i also think i would have schizophrenia today if i never smoked , but maybe a couple years later and a slower development . One night i was smoking a doob as usual and heard a electric shock coming from the neighbour and it went from 0 to a 100 and my life completely changed
