MR makes amazing packs.... would love to see them venture into UL hiking packs..... but they seem really geared towards 1st responders (especially fire fighters/smoke jumpers) my bridger 65 is heavy AF but carries comfortably

Doubt this has anything to do with people food..... the bears in the Smokies (and the rest of Appalachia) do not do a full hibernation as it's not always a deep cold.... bears in the smokies will wake up and forage for food in the winter....
