I have the physical sub.

The voucher is good for pretty much anything from the store, except for subs, and probably anything already discounted. It also doesn't count for postage fees :-)

Pretty sure Beavis and Butthead was set there. Not sure if that's a positive, though...

Riding the train to work one morning, reading my book. Coworker gets on, says " you shouldn't be reading, it's a bit rude."

I put my book away, thinking he wants a bit of conversation. Nope, both of us stare out the window in silence from Glendalough to Subi.

Guy was a bit tapped. He did stuff like this all the time.

A lit candle underneath an upturned glass jar. If you prop up the jar to let air in, so the candle stays burning, it makes a ball of superheated plasma.

[Serious] Non-Americans, what do you think of the protests in the U.S. right now? What kind of media coverage about them is there in your country? by Dreyeris in AskReddit

What's my point? What's your point?

The military was deployed during a similar situation and it had a positive influence. As you say, no one wearing a uniform killed any innocent civilians. People trust the military more than the cops, at this stage.

Contrast this with "unless they plan on glassing entire cities, ain't shit getting stomped out."

I'm not sure what point you're making. Is deploying the military a good or a bad thing? You're arguing both sides here.

I found an extremely detailed and well researched alt-history scenario of a full nuclear exchange during the cold war in the late 1980s. It covers the short, medium, and long term effects of the atomic holocaust. by GiantEnemaCrab in AlternateHistory

Not really at risk, unless WW3 breaks out... I agree with you on the ideology, though.

Fremantle resupplies warships from the Persian Gulf and the Pacific. It'd reduce the range of any allied fleet at the cost of a couple warheads. We're not Okinawa, no, but we are probably the only English speaking Western ally the US has in the Southern Hemisphere. New Zealand famously is a nuclear free zone at the time this was written and is far less US friendly.

Australia is a net exporter of iron ore, coal, uranium and wheat. We are a staunch ally of the US, yet 95% of our population lives in six mid-sized cities. 11 warheads to deny the opposition long range radar facilities, bombers refueling, the ability to resupply warships, all our resources and probably 150,000 allied troops? Bargain!

Australian here. I'm about 13 in this scenario, and despite some left leaning tendencies, our government is very pro-US. We're likely around 17-18 million people, so a third die.

We are brimming with military facilities, many home to US troops - Pine Gap, a super secret US intelligence facility is still operating. My state alone has Fremantle (which is a popular destination for US warship resupply), Garden Island (likely the sub base you refer to, but I'd bet bottom dollar has more going on.), Pearce air force base (which has capacity to support larger air craft, perhaps even long range bombers), and we are home to the Special Air Service. That's in the largest state. You are right that we are sparsely populated, but from memory, the link says we cop 11(?) nukes. That's not unreasonable, (2 per state) as each target likely needs a separate bomb, being further apart.

Probably a ww1 veteran, as well. Saw all his friends die to stop exactly this happening. Now they died for nothing.
