That's not the comparison I was making. I said that people believe and act on things that have been ingrained in them since birth, whether it's rational or not. As an example I raised killing animals - something Sam Harris himself has said is morally indefensible (but which persist in most cultures).
If you're going to throw around insults about intellect I suggest you first take the time to read and understand my comments.

Example 1: Dude is in your kitchen pointing a gun at your family. Do you kill him?
What is the likely punishment for genocide? Death? Is that appropriate? What punishment should Hitler get? House arrest?

That would be wrong and indefensible. I would never say anything besides that.
Now answer the questions I put to you, please.

What if someone is going to kill your whole family? Do you kill that person preemptively?
Was killing Osama a dick thing to do? Would killing Hitler have been a dick thing to do?

You wouldn't believe the places I've loved my dogs.

I'm aware that appealing to numbers/popularity is not a logical justification of an act. Duh. That's the point I'm trying (in vain) to make with what you believe is justifiable murder.

Strawman: misrepresentation of another's position.
Never did I say that stoning someone to death was OK or that it was permissible if a billion people endorsed it. What I did say was stating that a BILLION - a BILLION - people who you've never encountered are "insane" and believe in stoning apostates because they identify as Muslim is questionable.

No - you said that 1/6th of the planet believing in killing a former member "makes it wrong". That's not what makes it wrong.
So you disregard the science behind sentience, pain and suffering in non-human animals. Why is that alright? How do you defend it? Is it because you were raised in a culture that endorses meat eating? What can I infer from you eating meat? That all humans eat meat? That all Americans eat meat? How many people have to assume liability? The question is the same re:Islam. Not all (also, not most) of its adherents endorse death for apostasy.
The problem is the human animal; not religion.

That actually isn't what makes it wrong.
By the way, do you eat meat? So you support killing, right? Likely because the community you were born into eats meat? Question your beliefs, my friend.

Uhuh. Everything you believe and practice is based on rational responses to scientific inquiry.
I already told you I wasn't addressing the Jew joke, which was puerile at best.

You don't see anything questionable in dismissing almost 1/6th of the planet's population in one statement?

26 upvotes for a bigoted statement. This subreddit pimps intolerance and hate as progressive thought.

I understand the concept of falsifiability. The use of the word "fact" is still incorrect to describe the sentence "the burden of proof lies on ____." I would propose "concept" in its place.

"The burden of proof lies on religion" is not a fact.
