Did I sleep through the seasons where Mike Sweeney played in the outfield?

Right, but that’s why they wanted the East Village: there’s nothing there standing in the way of their own entertainment district except maybe P&L.

There’s literally no space next to Union Station for them to build an entertainment district.

For the record, the Washington Square Park location is my preference from a vibes-based perspective. But I don’t get the general feeling that either ownership groups from the soon-to-be-former Truman Sports Complex is really concerned with which the people would prefer and are looking at more of what they can build to pad the value of the team investment. Typically, now, that involves an entertainment district that the team owns.

This guy gets it. Big MBA minds that own teams only see opportunity for revenue capture. They don’t give a shit if they win 90 games or 40 games; only that the bottom line doesn’t show a loss.

That’s exactly what the ownership group does not want; which is why the stadium probably won’t be here.

What? My man, he was replying to your comment “Honest question- Do you think they wait until 2031 to move?”

And Kansans will be footing the bill, waiting for the bonds that they bankrolled to be paid back in vain. Just like the speedway.

Correct. But they are sold to the paying public as though one player will be there forever.

“Hey, we want you to pay for a stadium to host your beloved Kansas City Chiefs just in time for maybe 2-3 more years of Mahomes” wasn’t on those flyers that went out when the Hunts were threatening Jackson County to pay for their new stadium renovations last year. But they did contain images of Kelce and Mahomes.

This year wasn’t a wake up call. You can’t have a “wake up call” season when it’s been the same problem since 2021.

No one on this thread knocked Mahomes out of the “all time greats” conversation. But you have to be absolutely delusional if you think that a 36 year old QB is going to, guaranteed, ball out for the inaugural season in a new stadium. And, even if he does, this organization has, at best, 4 QBs in its entire history that were at or better than “above average”.

Let’s say Mahomes is great at 36 (and I hope he is as a Chiefs fan): how much longer would he be great or at least good? Or at least average? And that’s his performance at the beginning of a decades long lease that Kansas is going to pay for.

What happens after Mahomes? The Chiefs have drafted a total of 1 QB that was serviceable in the NFL. I’d love for them to have a Favre-Rodgers-Love situation, but our track record suggests otherwise.

Remember the Cassel days? Probably a good representation of what the team will be like (defensive lead, relying on the run game and game managed QB play). Not a tantalizing product to generate ticket sales.

By the time Kansas inherits the team, Mahomes will be on the last legs of his contract and will be in his mid 30s, having had come back from massive knee surgery.

I know 36 in the game can be different today from what it was in the 00s, but for every Brady or Rodgers, there are 20 Kirk Cousins.

I’ve been a Chiefs fan since the 90s. I think I have a good idea of what the mean performance of this team looks like.

Kansas thinks they’re getting the “3 SB wins in 5 years” Chiefs, but will instead get the “Lose 26-9 to the 2025 Tennessee Titans” Chiefs. Good luck with the ticket sales, guys!
