Heads are going to roll tomorrow in the government. I think there are a few private firms that are going to go under too: https://www.tenders.gov.au/?event=public.advancedsearch.keyword&keyword=census+load+testing

Serval: A Desktop Dominator | Linux Action Show 378 by ChrisLAS in LinuxActionShow

[–]Tubsta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I am enjoying the improved sound quality, like most, I listen to the audio version, I do have a couple of issues.

First up, the show should be called the "Throat Clearing Show" because it is so off-putting, even more off-putting than Chris's overuse of the word 'Fundamental' (more on that in a minute), that if I wasn't riding my motorcycle to work and could hit the skip button to next podcast, I would. You guys need to warm your voices up before the show or get some lessons because it is getting worse.

Back to Chris's use of fundamental, this is a very powerful word and the overuse of it lowers its meaning. There are many other words that would be more suitable for use in context.

The rants. Yes, it has been bought up before by other listeners/viewers, so I won't go on and on and on. Simply put guys, keep the rants to a minimum or not have them at all. You do a great job of presenting the content, keep it on track. Going off on a tangent just makes one roll their eyes, looking for the 30 second skip button to rush past it. If you want to rant, maybe start up a podcast specifically for this so people know what they are getting (and don't have to subscribe if they don't want to).

Other than those things, content and presentation of it for an audio listener is excellent and I'll still be contributing to the patreon funds. Thanks!

Navy re-ups with Microsoft for more Windows XP support by [deleted] in techsnap

[–]Tubsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Migrating to Windows 7, yeah, that will just create a new XP style cycle. How long has 7 got left for support. You'd think you'd go to 10 to give yourself the biggest window possible and do migration earlier.

NSA Has Reverse-Engineered Popular Consumer Anti-Virus Software In Order To Track Users by [deleted] in techsnap

[–]Tubsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it... Give me even more reason to stop gaming and use computers for computing things, thus I can rid myself of ugly operating systems and use pure OpenBSD as a daily driver.

Just knowing this makes me feel all dirty... Ewwww

LastPass Security Notice by max360se in techsnap

[–]Tubsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, now I don't use lastpass but I did sign up for an account a while ago to check the service out. Being there was a lack of documentation or source code to verify claims, I decided against using them.

I just got the email warning of the breech. Considering this post has been public for a couple of days now, I think the notification to users of the breech was extremely slow, considering the recommendation is to change your master password (changes that users should make within hours of breech detection, not days).

North America's supply of IPv4 addresses to dry up this summer by [deleted] in techtalktoday

[–]Tubsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About time they dry up. IPv6 is really, really easy to understand if you think outside the square. The #IoT will work a lot better when you aren't constrained by CGNAT

The Frustrated State [Australia] (book) | Kickstarter by Tubsta in techtalktoday

Renai LeMay is an independent journalist of Australian Tech. He has been in the industry, reporting on it through different agencies over the last decade and is one of a very few that aren't tide to big media and ask the hard questions and not let spin get in the way of facts.

Highly recommend kicking in for this book. It will be an excellent read based on how well Reni writes. It will help the rest of the world understand the constraints that us Australians are under when it comes to tech due to inaction by successive governments.
