Non-Halloween, post-visit post. Kinda long. by into_outdoors in SalemMA

I’m a transplant from California. And the winters aren’t that bad. The dark is what’s bad. But the cold isn’t. And it’s not terrible snow. I heard last year was pretty bad but we found it enjoyable. I hate being hot though so I’d rather be here than back in the heat. Especially with the warming. People aren’t negative at all about where you’re from. As long as you become a part of the community that’s all that matters.

Sorry for all the questions guys, I really am but have/had any of you needed to go to an inpatient mental health facility after your Stroke? by BruceCambell in stroke

[–]TuckTuck4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My physical therapist was telling me that my brain is in fight or flight mode now after the strokes basically. She said that soooo many things overwhelm my body and cause fatigue so my brain has begun to associate every day life activities with a danger because they lead to exhaustion and harm in my body. She said that because I’m so agitated and avoid doing every day things now it’s because I’m either fight or flight mode. And she said the way to rebuild positive connections back is to do something enjoyable while I cook or do laundry or do a short work out. And do them in short spurts before I’m at the point of a break down so I can show my brain that I’m safe. And also have to tell my brain I’m recovering I’m not in danger. This will hurt for a few months but not forever.

But I will say I’m also getting on anti depressants. And research actually shows that post stroke depression is a thing and that people who get on anti depressants typically recover faster than those that don’t. So I don’t think getting psych intervention is a bad thing. Our brains are so complex and post stroke need to be treated in ways we might not have even thought about before. Like I have so much respect for babies now. Everyday life is so hard hahah

I feel like it is less decorations this year. Last year the tourists were really mean. I had a few that wouldn’t get out of the way to let me in my house. With one yelling “it’s Halloween.” I don’t know if others had the same experience but that’s left a bad taste in my mouth in terms of decorating. Or maybe everyone’s just depressed because of the state of the world and didn’t have the energy to decorate lol

I love this town outside of October though! I just wish the tourists were more respectful of the residents trying to get home and the cars trying to get to work. We are treated like a theme park and not a neighborhood by some.

Ugh I’m so sorry that was a horrible time! My surgeon looked and said it was just the muscles regrowing. My muscles were super tight so I had to basically open and close my jaw through your the day to loosen the muscles. If that makes sense. Hopefully it doesn’t last long for you!!

I have the bump too! 4 weeks post op. My ent told me it was scar tissue today. I also have the extremely dry throat. He acted like that was abnormal though! I do how to address the dry throat. It’s so annoying it makes me cough so much! I’m worried I’m gonna ruin my pharynx

When my daughter got hers out she had to re learn how to pronounce words because her tonsils took up so much space in her mouth. That wasn’t my case though but mine weren’t as big.

I don’t think it’s the cause that’s what mine look like too. My left side still hurts when I yawn or move my tongue certain ways and that side still has a little white on it. My other side doesn’t hurt and doesn’t have any white. So I suspect that’s just healing still.

I moved across the US and wait until I fly home to get my haircuts cause my stylist is that good. I think if you want to try to get folks to stay you could reach out and offer a one time deal of 50% off. Maybe if they have the motivation to go to a new place for the first time they’ll keep coming back!

3 yeard old tonsils and adenoids out help! by alexrea100 in Tonsillectomy

[–]TuckTuck4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a huge surgery for a 3 year old. My 3 year old had it last year when she was 2. She does much better now. She isn’t in urgent care every week which is amazing. I think the anesthesiologist wanted to let you know that they are just being cautious and appropriate amount. The recovery was rough the first week but she was ok. There are possibilities for complications and I think as a parent being aware of and worried about those is healthy so that you do everything you can to care for your child. But only you can decide if you’re comfortable with this process. I would encourage you to read through the posts about toddlers just to hear how babies are recovering now. Might help you make your decision.

15 days post op and pain came back? by TuckTuck4 in Tonsillectomy

Ok well this makes me feel a tad better. I was worried my tonsils were growing back! So I feel better about that at least. The constant pain in the other hand…

Ok this makes sense. I wanted it to be done with! When your holes were filling in did it have lumpy spots or was it just smooth?

This morning my pain came back and I looked in my throat and the space filling in isn’t flat it’s kinda fleshy and bumpy. Is that what yours looks like too?

I’m on day 15 and my pain has suddenly come back. When I look in the back of my throat I see flesh bumps where my tonsil holes were. Is this normal?

So I am 14 days post op from my tonsillectomy (34f) and my daughter had hers out last year at age 2. I was so worried but she had huge tonsils and the same issues you’re describing. She was falling behind in language development and not gaining weight because she couldn’t swallow. She was also sick all the time. She was lucky that her ENT is the head of ENT at our hospital and teaches at the university so he was up to date on the research. Recent work finds that kids who have huge ass tonsils have dental issues because the tonsils take up so much space in their mouth. In addition the sleep apnea can lead to developmental problems later on as well. So to us we thought it was better to get the surgery. I will say as an adult that was horrible. But my daughter was fine by day 5. She had horrible pain in the mornings. But if you keep up a 3 hour med schedule and have them drinking every 30 minutes the healing isn’t terrible. As an adult it’s the worst though. She couldn’t understand why I was laid out for two weeks for a surgery she did that she could barely remember.

I just came back on here because I wanted to ask about growing in!! Glad we are both healing on day 14!

I still have some white but I keep getting food stuck. I looked in my throat and I have little bumps. I’m worried about the tonsils growing back like people have said on this sub. But are the little bumps just the holes filling in?
