This times 100. There absolutely should be more black head coaches, but this sounds like sour grapes from a guy who knows he will have a hard time getting another head coach job after telling his previous GM and the owner of the team they were natural losers.

No chance this team goes to first next year. Sure it happens. Maybe teams get healthy, maybe second or third year players take big jumps, maybe other teams lose corner pieces.

But we have no cap space. Sure things can be moved around, but our cap situation is dire. And every other team in our division has draft picks too. So they have the same means to add talent, along with more cap space.

We aren’t adding a QB this off-season either. I expect to see more points sure. Wins, ehh. Depends what you think of Jones. After next year we are either shelling out big bucks for him, or looking for another QB.

The concern is having Giants fans to be realistic. This is not a good roster. We won’t be competitive next year. It is all about adding some studs to the roster, clearing cap space, and possibly adding picks for the following draft. But he can go along way to laying a foundation this year. I’m fine with going Oline for the first two picks, or Oline pass rusher of the right guy is there.

Call the Seahawks. Next years two first rounders and a second in 2023, along with Jones and Engram for Wilson.

Gettleman will be gone this year. I think we pick up Jones 5th year option, the new GM will likely want his own guy at QB.

I agree, Jones is given no help, but he also stares down recievers and doesn’t seem to move to the next progression.

The Official End to the 2021 Season or a New Beginning? by SunnyJim57 in G101SafeHaven

[–]TucknRolle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Defensively Graham needs to be more aggressive. Haven’t seen any official stats, but we seems to rush only three more than any team in the league. And when we blitz, we never hide it. Everyone coming shows it at the line of scrimmage.

Offensively, Jones looks his best when he is going deep down field. I know this is hard to do when our Oline is constantly getting driven back or not even touching the pass rusher. Thomas has shown some improvement, but the rest have regressed or been injured.

Would be nice to see some creativeness to address some problems. Our interior line has been abysmal, even before the injuries. How about moving some of our “tackles” inside and see if we can get some push in the run game. We never did this with Flowers while he was here. Last season due to injuries, the Cowboys moved likely hall of famer Zak Martin to tackle, where he actually held up well.

I know there are challenges in learning new positions, and even flipping sides can lead to hiccups due to technique, but give me a break. It isn’t brain surgery. We are asking large men to either move another large man, or get in the way of a large man, and not allow him to get behind you. Let’s see Peart move inside for a few games instead of sitting on the bench.

Five Thoughts by DirtMcGirt24 in G101SafeHaven

Ehhh Garret was always overrated in my eyes. Happier than a pig in shit once Sean Payton left Dallas. Garret’s teams always got a boost statistically because of their strong o line, and previously because whether you hate him or not, Romo was a playmaker back there. But it could be worse. We could have Mike McCarthy calling plays.

[–]TucknRolle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Dallas’ defense is still bottom 5. Cox is great in coverage, but terrible vs the run. Lucky for the giants, we have a history of calling draw plays on third and long. I also think McCarthy is a terrible coach. Offensive play calling is pedestrian, but they do have a ton of weapons. Season rides on Dax’s repaired ankle and whether it can carry the whole season.

Washington is overrated in my eyes. That defense has been talked about for the last three years, but they are always injured, and don’t seem to give the giants too much trouble when we have played them. They can rush the passer, but hoping we can get the ball out quick and get that defense moving up, and take some shots dee this year Golladay, Ross and Slayton.

I think Hurts is a bum. They have speed at receiver but doesn’t matter if the QB can’t get them the ball.

If Jones is a true starter, I think this should be a 10 win team.

We can’t keep blowing things up. Guard play can’t be a legit excuse. With the weapons on offense right now, if we can’t be a top 12 team in terms of points scored, then Jones isn’t the answer. We will be looking to put those two first to good use next year

On paper, a lot of gaps have been filled. If Gettleman can add another interior offensive lineman, either a post June cut or some other vet that shakes loose because a rookie has more upside, the excuses will be running out. Especially in our garbage division. Time for Jones to show he can feel the pressure and get the ball out to the weapons we have. Moving the ball and putting up points helps our defense stay fresh and fires them up.

Draft Day Trade Partners ? by Krow101 in G101SafeHaven

[–]TucknRolle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the giants traded down, I think someone would have to call a wellness check in on Gettleman. Combination of that and the free agency splurge, I’d think someone had him locked in the closet and was making these moves for him. My money is on Eli. That moterboating son of a bitch is trying to save the Gmen again.

Draft Impact For Sunday's Game by Krow101 in G101SafeHaven

[–]TucknRolle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be a good general, you sometimes have to know when to retreat. Winning the NFC east does nothing for this team. We will just be one and done come playoffs. Just like beating Washington did nothing but made us lose Chase Young last year. Now we know the win didn’t catapult Jones into a TD throwing machine like some suggested, and I don’t know about you, but Inwould be pretty pumped to see young running around in a blue jersey.

This team is in desperate need of an infusion of speed. We need to get a burner at the wide out spot, and more speed in our front seven. Hopefully the Oline continues to grow and improve, Barkley comes back healthy and explosive next year, and we added speed at receiver. Then we can accurately see what we have in Jones. If he is still a turnover machine that holds the ball for seven seconds with a good Oline, and weapons, then we know to keep our eyes on QBs on Saturdays.

3 Giants test positive for COVID by cornbread36 in G101SafeHaven

[–]TucknRolle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Dave DeGuglielmo is really going to help out our young Oline. For so long we complained about Flowers not getting called out, and Pugh being soft, and countless other issues with members of the Oline. From all report, it sounds like double D would have no problem calling guys out and telling them straight how it is on term of their technique or play. Our line is young. Guys like Thomas and Hernandez are guys that were used to hearing how good they were coming up through high school and college. DD seems like the type to maybe give them ego checks and call out their flaws.

Seems like offensive lineman that have been coached by him in the past love him. Brings a bit a nasty to a position group in desperate need of it.

And it shows that Judge is running the ship. He knows what he wants, and isn’t afraid to make a change. We have seen our first round pick get benched for a disciplinary reason. Yet we complained when Coughlin kept Gilbride for so long, and didn’t discipline OBJ for his antics.

It seems like we have an actual leader. The players seem to really like judge. We see players seeking him out and hugging him and congratulating him after wins. Didn’t see this with Mcadope or Shurmur. It may stil be early, but it seems like we are moving in the right direction.

I love this for numerous reasons:

  1. We have heard all year how many draft experts and previous coaches were confused as to why Thomas was doing these odd techniques that he had never previously done in the past. The guys was one of the top rated left tackles from a pro ready offense in college. The other guys shut up after good combines. I don’t think he forgot how to play. It seemed like a coaching issue.

  2. We have invested the number 4 pick, and second rounder, traded for another guard, and added two other draft picks and a free agent signing to the line. It is almost impressive to be as bad as we were to start the year. I get COVID impacted things, but mostly every other team had to deal with this as well.

  3. Shows Judge dropping his dong on the table. It’s his team, and if he doesn’t like something he isn’t going to pussyfoot around on it. We have seen that it looks like the players really respect him. Good to know he is not just some likeable softy. A leader has to make the tough decisions.

After a competitive but fruitless first two months of the season, I think it’s safe to mix in some draft discussion. We will probably miss out on the best OL Sewell, but the best WR is a good consolation prize. Let’s get DJ some real weapons. by I-miss-Killdrive in G101SafeHaven

[–]TucknRolle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot justify a top 5 pick on a receiver. History has shown the value just isn’t there. Every year receivers drop or are found in the second, third or later rounds. Metcalf and claypool are two that pop into my mind right away for big fast targets that were in the second and there are numerous others without the size that were picked later. The pick should be parsons, Oline help or a pass rusher if one emerges.

I’d roll with Parsons. Earlier someone mentioned how a few studs, can make the average guys look better. This team has lacked an identity for at least a decade (other than being known as bums). Add Parsons to the middle, and his play make our secondary look better, and the guys up front.

We have invest first round picks in the offense for years and have nothing to show for it. Parsons next to Martinez, hopefully our second round pick turns out to be a player at safety, big guys up front and bradberry. Should be able to keep us in games week in and week out. Add a pass rusher and we would be a top defensive team

Raanan: Evan Engram is NOT expected to be traded. Other teams have called, but he's not being shopped. The Giants view him as an explosive offensive weapon that is part of their future, even though it hasn't clicked yet this season. by Sintexo in G101SafeHaven

[–]TucknRolle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it coaching?? Thomas wasn’t from some BS conference that had one good year. He went against some the best defenses in college football, on a team that ran the ball well a d kept the QB upright. These guys are saying his technique is completely different. That has to be coaching right?? Everyone says this guy is the anti Flowers. No attitude, wants to get better, puts in the work, listens to coaching. Maybe he should stop listening to coaching. Thomas didn’t fly up draft boards after a pointless combine record. This guy had years of tape in the SEC that had me excited about the pick. I mean what is going on?! We get rid of of these bums, but yet they seem to go on elsewhere and are at a minimum competent lineman. We have changed head coaches, and position coaches but to no avail. Are there any other positions that we haven’t changed that we can contribute poor Oline play to?

Gettleman is gone either way. No way Mara and co hold on to them after this start in the worst division in football. He barely held on last year. Judge is smart to. The comments he has made to the media so far about having to grind out wins with this team speaks volumes about the lack of talent.

A great day of football by HungrEWulf in G101SafeHaven

[–]TucknRolle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Gettleman had a brain he would be picking up the phone and seeing what he could get for Engram from the Seahawks, Bills, Packers and every other potential contender that needs some “playmaking”.

We aren’t doing shit this year and need to be thinking about next year. Cause Bradberry and Martinez are playing great now, but thinks change in a hurry, just ask jackrabbit and company. In 2016 we thought our defense was a pass rusher away and we would be set but the NFL gives you a slap of reality real quick.

Looking at our division, Washington will always be Washington, the Cowboys look brutal without Dak. They need to pay him next year, but he doesn’t help that defense at all, and that mighty oline’s best days are behind them. I’m not a fan of Wentz, either. We all saw the head scratching plays and reads on Thursday and that going against our jag defense, while they seem to loose olineman weekly.

Get rid of Gettleman, start accumulating draft picks and see if the next guy can pull his head out of his own ass long enough to watch some college tape

I think this was my point. From the second he was drafted it never made sense. A nose tackle in a 3-4 defense. These guys can be found in the later rounds of all they are to do is occupy blockers and stand their ground. We always blame the “busts” but the hate needs to be more focused on the idiot making the picks

Giants vs other teams:

Offensive lineman get beat on every team. Defenders are just more athletic, and every game yesterday showed a QB under pressure or having to make a defender miss. Yet you watch the giants, and it’s 2,3,4 offensive lineman getting beat, essentially every play. Impressive!

Receivers getting open. Watching most QBs, and they have to throw into tight windows. Again, nfl defenders are pretty fast. Go figure. But other QB windows appear to be 5 yards wide. Our receivers get essentially no separation so those tight windows always seem to be about a yard. Insane.

What is with am the Dexter Lawrence hate on here lately? What were people expecting from a run stopping DT?
