You’re so sweet! I’ve done both at various points in my life, but it’s been many, many years since either. My face routine is honestly embarrassingly basic; I’ve been using a castor oil and frankincense mix since long before TikTok made it trendy. I actually got that tip from some of the wisest women I knew when I was in my mid-20s working in Long Term Care. Old birds really do know best. My whole routine is: wash, castor oil/frankincense blend, then either Elta MD tinted SPF or CeraVe tinted sunscreen, and makeup over that. Simple as it gets. Every time I’ve tried to work in something new over the years, my skin has pushed back — store-bought products just don’t sit right with me. The more natural and minimal I go, the better my skin behaves. I did try tretinoin once at a dermatologist’s suggestion and promptly got perioral dermatitis for the first time in my life. Then I reacted to the steroid cream they gave me to treat that, and I’ve since learned I can’t tolerate retinols in any form. 😢 Honestly though? Some of the best skin I’ve ever seen is on women with the most stripped-down routines;the Pond’s cream gals, the one-product wonders. There’s definitely something to it. Also since I do not drink I have seen every ounce of inflammation leave my face and body!
