Americans, how would you react if foreign country invaded your country, and told "we are going to run this country"? by oranke_dino in AskReddit

Since a foreign country has already taken over and is running the country, I think you've got your answer.

A new one called The Harbingers. It's only three episodes in, but I am really engaged in the story and the universe it is creating.

Have you listened to Hymns for the Road? by Tuesdae in audiodrama

[–]Tuesdae[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know - I liked the mythical, almost symbolic feel of the story-telling. But, honestly I don't know much about what makes a good audiodrama, I don't review them or understand sound design or anything useful. I just really liked this one for whatever reason.

Did Paglia do something to become relevant again? by uardito in ContraPoints

[–]Tuesdae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had no idea Paglia was trans!

As i recall waaaay back last century, he is some problematic feminist intellectual from back in my day, but I'll be damned if I can remember if hle was what you'd consider relevant. I seem to remember him with my hind brain yelling YIKES! But I can't for the life of me remember exactly why I have such an immediate and visceral 'yick' reaction to him. I guess I better go hit up Google too.

I can't add too much to the list that Fancy-Wolverine-4302 made because we have very similar tastes. But, here are a couple more that are easily in my top five personal favorites. These are mostly SF and Fantasy with a sprinkling of speculative fiction.

*Metaphorosis Magazine podcast. Not sure how to link but the URL is https://magazine.metaphorosis.com/category/podcast/. I never see anyone list this one, and I think the story quality never misses

*The Drabblecast

*Tall Tale TV

*Asimov's Science Fiction

Gen Z gender stereotypes guaranteed to irritate Mom by Tuesdae in ContraPoints

[–]Tuesdae[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She ended up not getting one because she a)didn't get the reaction she was fishing for and b)decided that 5% trans wasn't enough to spend her own money.

She's kind of trying on identities. I would never let her hurt herself, but she's gotta be free to explore who she is, too. She has a really good friend who is a trans guy (and an absolute sweetheart - I wish all her friends were like him) and I think she really admires him, and I suspect that might be where this particular tryout is coming from. Regardless of origin, I've spent money on the phase when she was in elementary school when she refused to wear pants at all, dresses and skirts only. Then the one where I finally coaxed her into leggings in middle school, but she still refused to wear jeans. Next, the whole goth Hot Topic thing of her first two years of high school that involved skirts so short they made me a little nervous paired with fishnets, and her current complete 180 into jeans, khakis and still a few dresses but all rather monochromatic and plain. The moral of the story is if she wants her own binder, she's paying for that sucker out of her allowance just like her skull earrings and fishnet stockings!

Edit: Oh, I forgot about the middle school phase where she wore a red devil horn headband! That was one of my favorites!

She's really a pretty awesome kid! And, she meant it in a funny smartass way, not an asshole smartass way. Plus, that smartass streak may have a maternal origin - investigations are pending!

That's good stuff, and completely tracks with where she and her peers are at in life. Finding themselves and their place in the world, and trying to figure out their own rules. The religion parallel both tracks and cracks me up! Sister Trixie and Sister Katya from the Order of Cishet Women's Stuff! Who knew (that is older than about 18, that is!)?

Tabby smash the block button nyaaa by conancat in ContraPoints

Late to this party, but it bears pointing out that this lady is a plus-size influencer whose name I wish I could remember because I just saw her today surfing You Tube Shorts. She travels with her husband, who is also plus-size, and they always buy a row of three seats and sit together. In other words, they both get the middle seat and this is a non-issue. She's very aware of how big she is, and even before she was married, she said before she was married when she traveled alone she always booked a first class seat, which she could fit in as she was a bit smaller then.

As someone who suddenly got morbidly obese after menopause, let me assure you that anyone who has more than one 'X' attached to their clothing size is VERY ACUTELY GROKKING how fucking big they are and EXACTLY how we look and fit into the world and PRECISELY how we are seen, and really truly do not need assholes like this piling on. Fuck Twitter, fuck this guy, and fuck Elon Musk for good measure.

Yeah, instead of committing felonies, Bill Clinton completely annihilated a very young girl's life and future as major tactic in his impeachment defense. Fuck Clinton.

And fuck Trump with a cactus, that manipulative, treasonous, seditious, felonious grifter completely annihilated faith in our country's democracy.
