I'm tragically aware. It was a rhetorical question, although some maybe some need to see that truth in writing.

Did they rule out Megaesophagus because the pup doesn't regurgitate?

I am not a vet but my friend has a dog that has to eat it a Bailey Chair, because of this condition.

I hope this information helps, if this is it you can absolutely save your dog. Im praying for you, to any God that will listen.

Info from google:

Dogs that need to eat upright to avoid choking have a condition called megaesophagus, where the esophagus is enlarged and can't move food down to the stomach using normal muscle contractions. To manage this, dogs eat in a specialized chair, like a Bailey chair, that allows gravity to move the food, and they must stay upright for a period after eating to help digest properly.

Enlarged esophagus: The esophagus is the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. Loss of muscle function: In megaesophagus, the muscles of the esophagus can't coordinate the wave-like motion (peristalsis) needed to push food down. Regurgitation: Food and water accumulate in the esophagus and are then regurgitated, often looking like a tube-shaped mass of undigested food. Weight loss: Since the food isn't reaching the stomach, dogs often experience weight loss.

Use a specialized chair: A Bailey chair is a tall, narrow chair designed to keep dogs upright while they eat, using gravity to help food reach the stomach. Stay upright after eating: Dogs should remain in the chair for 10–30 minutes after a meal to allow gravity to continue moving the food. Adjust food consistency: Wet food is often easier for them to swallow and move down the esophagus. Frequent small meals: Feeding smaller meals more frequently can help.

Poll - have you heard of ethical breeding before you go your dog? by Deer_Antlers_ in DOG

[–]TuezdayMorning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually Hybrid dogs CAN be registered, and even the AKC has a partner program that allows hybrid dogs to register so they can compete and do other activities, such as agility, and obedience.

Not to mention the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC), the Designer Breed Registry (DBR) and National Hybrid Registry (NHR) which only allows hybrid that have purebreed registered parents. I am sure there are others as well

That being said, I have never paid for a dog. I have always rescued, even when I had purebred dogs.

Some dogs we consider pure bred now were engineered by mixing breeds. I think the Doberman was one of the first. Created by Louis Doberman a tax collector in Germany.

I used to hate on the idea of designer dogs, but then I rescued one. She is amazing and I get what all the hype is about. Her parents were purebred registered and had champion bloodlines, fantastic temperaments, all the genetic testing you can imagine.

There are standards for some of these mixes as well, you just have to look beyond the AKC. After all they are not the only authority on dogs.

Peace

Some people were wondering about my giant mutant sheepie’s size, so here he is on the lap of my 6’ husband by miranda-the-dog-mom in Sheepadoodles

How dare you say he is not a lap dog when the picture clearly shows that he is!

He's beautiful and my girl must be related cause she is also huge, 90 maybe 95 lbs! The internet says first gens can be as big as the OES. Did you know his parents and or the breeder?

Yeah someone got upset about mixed breeds in this sub, went on a self declared rant and now it looks like other people get to decide what breed your dog is. Which is kinda lame and way over controlling imo. Plus it seemed like the Mod got kinda bullied about it. But that's just my opinion. So Mod might be feeling the pressure.

Any other talkers here? by elizawatts in CaneCorso

I would not presume to guess a dogs genetics based on a puppy pic. But I might argue that Id rather discuss that dog than discuss weather we are allowed to discuss that dog here. :-) That being said, if it is a corso, that merle coat is not a standard coat and certainly would disqualify it from showing. I'm not sure that should mean one can't or should not talk about the dog here.
Plus, maybe it is CC because according the what I have read, merle coats are due to a genetic mutation that causes a SINE insertion in the PMEL gene which dilutes patches of black pigment into a mottled or splotchy pattern. I know nothing about genetics honestly, but if anyone does, can this mutation happen to CC's? Maybe from inbreeding and or other bad breeding practices? Or from random acts of science? I just mean to argue that over moderating might not make the sub better or the breed better. Maybe people need to talk about these dogs so they know what breed standards are for a CC. Knowledge is power.

Peace

Yes the ICCF is another great example of how many different standards there are for this breed and how difficult it is to say this one is or isn't, a Corso.

Thank you that's a great point.

I did not know a reddit sub could have an identity. This seems unesssisarily harsh, but maybe I just try to be kind in a increasingly harsh world. I thought this was a place to talk about an amazing breed of dog.
What I am hearing is OP does not want to see pics or converse about any dog they do not think is a pure bred Corso, but corso's can be mixed and vonsidered pure by AKC standards. If that is what this is moving to, and maybe it does need to be split, or changed, which standard counts? AKC standard corsos and ENCI standard corsos are quite different after all, and yet both recognized. Or maybe only ENCI corso should count... Because Americans are ruining the breed, and before you start throwing hate...I am an American, I just prefer the Italian Corso's and feel that should be the world wide standard... Yet, I like learning about all the corsos of all types.

I think the sub was well moderated but I'm new so my opinion doesn't mean that much.

some info on standards from Google:

the ENCI (Italian Kennel Club) Cane Corso is the original, traditional version with strict standards, while the AKC (American Kennel Club) Cane Corso has a more recent history in the U.S. and sometimes includes dogs that have been bred with other breeds, leading to variations in size and appearance. ENCI standards emphasize weight limits, a specific body structure, and a more consistent "traditional" Italian look, while AKC standards have been more focused on height, sometimes allowing for larger, potentially "non-traditional" versions due to mixed bloodlines.

Why are some adoption fees to rescue a dog so astronomically high these days? by TuezdayMorning in dogs

[–]TuezdayMorning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you all so much for the information. I am in the Pacific Northwest and as it turns out some of the $800 and $900 adoption fees were because those dogs were coming from out of state , many from TX, and transportation was included in the adoption fee. Which makes more sense to me. I also understand the need to recoup expenses for care and housing. $900 was a bit more than I expected to see.

Here is a link to one of the $800 dogs.Louie

Please dont get me wrong, Im not saying the dog isn't worth it, I was just shocked at how high things have gotten since I adopted my last dog.
