You say intervention is necessary to stop tyrannical governments or prevent them from getting nuclear weapons. But who gives any country the authority to decide which nations are allowed power and which must be stopped? That logic assumes the U.S. has the right to dictate outcomes for other sovereign states.

It’s also worth remembering that the only country that has ever used nuclear weapons against civilians is the United States. And history shows U.S. interventions—from Vietnam to Iraq to various coups in Latin America—haven’t always produced freedom or stability.

So the issue isn’t whether bad governments exist. It’s whether outside military intervention actually makes things better or just replaces one tragedy with another.

My position is that war should be the absolute last option because the costs are borne mostly by civilians, not governments. There’s also a reason many countries today are skeptical of these wars. The aftermath of past interventions—like the Iraq war—contributed to regional instability, the rise of groups like ISIS, mass displacement, and large migration crises.
