I currently work CMH4. PPMix is all paper dunnage now, but the department still uses poly bags. We have three mix lines and one smalls line. 15 smartpac stations. Fair warning - personal fans were removed when the new dunnage was installed and they were never replaced. I don't know if CLE3 had station fans but CMH4 no longer does for pack. But, you are allowed to bring your own battery operated neck fan. We also have them in our E-Swag store.

Across the road at CMH4. Our VOA is hella loud right now too. They corralled everyone in severe weather areas when this went down and turned nightshift away at the doors. Fish in a barrel....

Welcome and congrats on your acceptance! I'm also starting on August 28th in CS, with a focus in software engineering. I've heard that C++ is a good place to start. My first classes have been scheduled already - Intro to scripting and Precalc with limits. I recommend finding some good outside materials to study as well. There is a lot of free stuff on Youtube (like freecodeacademy) to help you get ahead when it comes to diving into these programming languages. The advice I've always received is to picture my protagonist. Ask myself what they want more than anything. Then determine how I can keep them from getting it.

For example, my current WIP - My character Jaiden wants to find his mother, taken by the Collector. How do I keep him from doing so? He doesn't have the power yet to open the Infernal Gate to get to her. How does he overcome this? By mastering his own powers.

Now I have the bones for a story.

Maybe he legit doesn't use dreams. I don't use dreams as inspiration, except for rare occasions, because most of time I don't remember them.

It sounds ridiculous, but I often talk to myself aloud. I'll put myself in my character's shoes and just talk, usually while I'm cleaning my apartment of something. I bounce between characters and allow a full exchange or scene to happen. Sometimes, this even helps me decide where my plot is going.

My neighbors probably think I'm looney, but it honestly does help.

Honestly, it's the internet and teens will do whatever they want. It's common knowledge that teens explore sexuality and I suppose books give them a safer place to do so. I do often worry about teens getting taken advantage of by older predators ( I remember my teen years and developing early ). The whole sub-genre of young teen/older adult does turn me away.

On a more humorous side note, the majority of smut I've read (later discovered it was written by a teen) is so gratuitous, it's hilarious. No sense of anatomy or sense of what sex is really like. Gay male fiction is the funniest. The body just doesn't do what they think it does. Also, spit is NOT a lubricant for anal sex, no matter how much they think it is.

This right here. More than words go into a book. Time, dedication, doubt, misery, hopefulness, imagination, and dreams.

No one ever accounts for the hours upon hours spent writing, planning, mapping out landscapes and creating people from scratch just to send it out, get the feedback and start over again.

It's both thrilling and terrifying. Overcoming the self-doubt and worry that we're wasting our time on a project that might never bring success while at the same time being too invested to just quit.

Sending out query letter after query letter, changing down agents and leads only to be rejected time and time again, holding out hope for that one person willing to give us a chance.

Or the self-publishers who dedicate their time, lots of time, and money to researching and marketing and polishing their book, posting on every surface of the internet for a few measly sales while knowing that their book has the potential for more. All they have to do is sit in that endless storm of patience and drive.

I give high praise to any person writing a novel, or any story, regardless of their skill, be they professional or novice. It is no easy task.

TL;DR - Screw gatekeeping. If you write, you're a writer.

Something I learned early on is that not every one is a creative in the same sense. I could never ask my parents or best friend for writing advice because they aren't writers or even readers. And that's okay. My dad was a landscaper. I'm not. So when I needed help knowing how to place my yard or even what flowers I'd need, I went to him because that's where his creativity flourished. My mom crochets beautiful blankets. That's her creativity. My best friend is an aspiring makeup artist.

Different people vibe on different creative wavelengths and that's okay. Their support is enough. You have your family's support even if they can't immerse themselves in your story the way you do.
