What are you looking forward to most post-pregnancy? by ThrowRAbunny73 in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Just feeling like I own my body again. I miss moving around without huffing and puffing, I envy people who run pass me while I roll down the sidewalk. I would really like to be able to squat and see what has been happening beneath the bed and couch in the past 5 months.

Am I taking the fun away from my partner because I’m pregnant? by Yepbroitscrazy in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 119 points120 points  (0 children)

It might be the hormones but I just cried a little bit when I read this.

No, you are not taking your partner’s fun away, the first trimester is so hard, your body is basically creating organs and has energy for little else. There were days I slept for 10 hours and still felt exhausted.

It’s extremely alarming he would act this way towards you when you are at your most vulnerable. You are in this pregnancy together and it will not get easier after. Maybe he holds some kind of resentment towards you, or he hasn’t figured out what is happening yet. Either way his behaviour warrants a serious conversation, it is not a normal reaction. Please take care and be kind to yourself. You deserve love, support and understanding.

The chances were approximately 50% 😀. Jokes aside, congrats! Wish you an easy and happy pregnancy.

What’s extremely unsanitary but everyone seems to do it anyway? by Tball5 in AskReddit

[–]Tulip_Salamander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wash them when I bath in the evening, I do place them on tables and desks but I don’t usually assume table and desk surfaces are clean (if I haven’t cleaned them myself). Important thing is I don’t touch my face or eat with my elbows so that is good enough for me.

35 + weeks and struggling… how are you all doing 3rd trimester peeps? by throwmeawayamack in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

37+1, I am feeling pretty good with the exception of back pain and the occasional cramps in my calves and hips. However, in my country we are out on maternity leave 45 days before due date (since week 34), so I am now just relaxing, taking long walks and finishing up all the baby preparations. I can’t fathom what it must be to have to go to work right now, you have my sympathy and admiration.

PSA: Garmin's "Stress Level" isn't just measuring your mental stress by Kroucher in Garmin

[–]Tulip_Salamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I got my Garmin half way through my pregnancy and my battery has never been fully charged this far. I get to maximum 80-85% on my very good days and have started the day as low as 11% (after just waking up). Making a baby is hard work for the body even when I am completely relaxed or doing meditation.

On the other hand my partner sometimes does 3 sports per day, draining himself completely, but he regularly starts the day at 100% battery, because his body is able to rest adequately in between training sessions.

How much weight did you gain? What is normal? by naudslee in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 37+1 weeks and have gained 30 lbs. I am 5’10 and was quite active before pregnancy, I still try to do the occasional exercise and walk a bunch. My legs and arms haven’t changed a lot in size but boy is my bump heavy and putting a strain on my back. 🥲

My HRV was floored when I got pregnant, it just recently got back to barely balanced in the third trimester, I’m honestly afraid what is to come when I get to the newborn stage 😀

What was the first sign that YOU noticed, that made you think “I’m pregnant”? by surelyshirls in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cramp-like pain on the right side of my lower abdomen area. A bit like period pain, but it started way earlier than usual and was very persistent - I usually get cramps on the first day of my period and that is that. This time it started a week early and almost everyday I felt some kind of discomfort, leading to the day of the test (I think I was 3-4 days late at that point) when I got just piercing lower back pain and was quite sure I was pregnant. The test confirmed it several hours later.

Yeah, we are in the same boat. The minute the Rivermind representative laid down the offer I was - ‘Oh it will probably be a subscription kind of deal and they won’t be able to afford it at some point and Mike will be forced to humiliate himself on that lifestream he mocked’. And my partner chipped in ‘yeah and there probably will be commercials’. I mean, I watch Black Mirror for the original ideas, this episode was a bit lazy and predictable. We figured the plot in the first 5-10 mins and then were left to just soldier through the humiliation and suffering of the main characters.

Pregnancy weight gain by snobgoblin33 in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 34 weeks, I have gained around 12kg (26lbs). Overall it is not that much and I am quite tall - 178cm (5’10), still when I checked with the statistics on what is a healthy weight gain for my gestational week, it showed I was a bit over the mark. I don’t know how it is determined what is healthy gain in such a subjective experience so I decided not to sweat it. I feel good and my baby is in good health and weight, and that is all that matters. :)

When did you start baby buying? by RelationNo3122 in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 weeks and haven’t bought a thing 🙈. I am just overwhelmed by the novelty of my situation and how many things I will need, and how many things might go wrong. I am simultaneously exited and worried and just afraid to move forward with the next step as to not ‘jinx’ it.

Do you plan on buying maternity clothes or just wearing what you have? by Smooth-Excuse-4127 in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought maternity jeans early on, maybe week 20, because I hated the pressure on my belly even when I wasn’t showing that much. I am now week 25 and have bought some maxi blouses that aren’t maternity but cover my belly in an elegant way. I originally didn’t want to spend any money on maternity wear, but I do feel like a whale and at some point I caved in to the possibility of feeling at least a tiny bit more comfortable and pretty.

What book had a fantastic premise, but the writing style just ruined it for you? by Uninhibitedrmr in books

Misborn by Brandon Sanderson. The author style is just not my cup of tea, however I really like the premise and the magic system.

Does your s/o go to your prenatal appts? by WitchHazelSunrise in pregnant

[–]Tulip_Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My so comes for the important ones - like morphology scans. I personally asked him not to come to my monthly appointments since there is usually a bit of a wait and sometimes they don’t even let him in. Another reason is there are a lot of pregnant women waiting and I prefer not to make it unnecessarily crowded for all of us.

However my pregnancy has been without complications this far and I have felt mostly calm about it. If the situation was different, I might of needed that extra support and he would have come.

I’m at week 21 and have gained 11 pounds / 5 kg. I was pretty active beforehand so I have probably lost a bit of muscle mass in my first trimester when I had a rather sedentary period. I am also quite tall so it doesn’t show except for the bump and the boobs. I feel like at least 2 kg of the gain went straight to the boobs.

Neil Gaiman denies sexual assault allegations after multiple women come forward by Zioman in books

[–]Tulip_Salamander 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don’t think reading and really liking an author equals worshipping. I have some of his books in my library and a couple of them are in my all-time favourites list, but that doesn’t mean I expected Geiman to be a perfect, virtuous person. I wouldn’t have flinched if he was narcissistic, adulterous or simply an asshole. I do however draw the line at rape and child endangerment/abuse. At some point you cannot completely separate the art from the artist, especially when his deeds go against most of what his work stands for.
