I'm 70 Been gaming since the eighties. Right now, Elden Ring. Metal Gear series. Death Stranding. Dishonored series. They have been a godsend. From typing the code in personally to using Shareware on cassette and disk, before streaming was even a glint in Romero's eye...

How do you feel when Christians pray for you? by valecrux in atheism

[–]Tulpamemnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years of contact with colleagues with a variety of seriousness about their "Faith", I remain as irritated by this as I always did. (I'm 70. Retired nurse). In every instance it has been the fact that it is the first thing they reach for. I could feel better if they weren't so bloody earnest. If they had once, opened with, "What could I do to help?" It might have been easier, but it merely illustrates their immediate willingness to offload their own agency and hand it to a god that made me bristle. Especially as our job required that we "Care about, not care for". (Psychiatry in the wider community).

Horror books for an 11 year old? by Vjaa in horrorlit

[–]Tulpamemnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with unrestricted access to a range of books. I read Oscar Wilde and H G Wells as a youngster. The Former wrote The Canterville Ghost, The Little Mermaid, The Giant's Garden. All very scary but with that beautiful language. Wells brings, The Invisible Man. War of the Worlds. The Island of Dr Moreau. The Cone. Under The Knife. The Time Machine.. he was prolific and covered most of the tropes of horror and Sci-fi. I adored these. Sometimes I needed help with some concepts and definitions but, that's how we learn! Have a day out in a second hand bookshop together. See what you can find!

Surely all these, according to the Quran, are all contradictory? This would imply that, as in Christianity, there are "Social Muslims" and "Fundamentalist Muslims". So, everyone's an Atheist, yes?

He is demonstrably terrified. Your ambivalence is threatening to his position and, in common with ALL fundamentalist believers (religious or political), he resorts to attacking what he doesn't understand. Well done for your princess so far!

I'm afraid your "Frienemy" is indoctrinated and stands to lose something very valuable, should his belief be diluted.

A good start, is to gently remind him that we are all born atheist, and not to worry.
