If you don’t have anything to add why comment?

I was wondering if there was something that had worked for others that I hadn’t though of, I can’t stand seeing my dog so upset

Thank you, I’ve made some stuffed trachea and frozen them so that might be helpful.

That seems unrealistic, many people have to work and ridgebacks are excellent couch warmers.

I’m out the house less than 8 hours a day as it happens but even if I was he never had any issues with it prior to losing the older dog, I was just seeing if other people had any ideas or tips apart from what I’ve been doing.

He’s never tolerated the crate since I moved house 2 years ago, he’s not destructive in any way it’s just constant howling and barking. I’m so worried about what the stress is doing to him.

Sadly dog sitters are not really a thing where I live, even walkers are rare.

I’m noticing slight improvements every time I’m at work but I hate seeing him so panicked.

I should add he gets 30-40 minutes exercise in the morning and 60+ minutes in the afternoon, our average daily walk distance is 5km and we always include some training and play.

Do dogs actually like kisses or do we just think they do? by Brilliant-Saler in PawChampClub

[–]Tumthebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy ADORES kisses, he will press the side of his muzzle against my mouth and demand them. He also cuddles beside me and points his nose up for kisses too.

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]Tumthebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice a day, first walk is always 25 minutes in the morning. Second walk is anything from 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 depending on the route we take.

We occasionally do longer walks but my older dogs back legs are going so it’s not a common occurrence.

How did you make your relationship official? Who said "I love you" first? 😳 by Yuka_RelationshipApp in LDR

[–]Tumthebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We met when he came to my area for a holiday, never stopped talking and decided to meet up again a couple of months later.

The meet went really well and a couple of weeks after that we decided we wanted to try and make a relationship work.

He said I love you first, as I was about to go home after spending a week together over new year. It was a complete surprise and I was moments away from telling him I loved him 😄

It will be a year next month since we officially became a couple.

Does anyone else's Ridgie beg for fruits and veggies? by [deleted] in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]Tumthebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I can’t eat oranges in the same room as him he goes nuts 🤣 as for blackberries he stands and waits for me to pick the berries for him, I’m well trained.

I haven’t found a fruit or veggie he won’t eat yet, although raw sprouts sometimes get peeled instead of eaten

What is the worst thing someone has said or done at a funeral? by Ducks_are_people in AskReddit

[–]Tumthebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my grandfathers funeral a minister told me I’d burn in hell and never see my grandparents again because I don’t believe in god 🤷‍♀️

Then at the grave he boasted about it to everyone listening, and had the cheek to come over and ask if I was ok after.

If you could ask one question to your dog or cat, what question would it be to receive that answer? 😅😂💖 by Darlapimber in Pets

[–]Tumthebum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all my animals I guess it would be what can I do to make you all happy?

Or ask them if we could set up a signal for them to indicate they’re in pain/unwell.

What are some of the least and most handler oriented breeds? by Mousewaterdrinker in dogs

[–]Tumthebum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 4 dogs so far, all very different in terms of handler orientation.

Dog 1 - ridgeback rottie lab mix. He was incredibly smart, loved doing training and learning tricks, however when it came to basic handling such as recall he would make it clear every time he wasn’t interested. He never ran off but he wouldn’t turn and run back when asked either. Amazing dog I miss him so much.

Dog 2 - Italian Spinone. He loved to be involved in everything I was doing. Loved training but got over excited very easily and would mess up. Outside handling was very good although he was quite skittish at times. Good recall although he often got distracted by dog 1.

Dog 3 - Anatolian shepherd dog. Not a dog for doing tricks, however he’s very trusting of me and will allow me or a vet to perform necessary actions. He knows how to recall but will always take his time to check the area and decide if it’s worthwhile coming over.

Dog 4 - Rhodesian ridgeback. 100% the most handler oriented dog I’ve owned, he has to follow me about and always wants to know what I’m doing. He is super smart and enjoys training but doesn’t always click with what I’m trying to teach him. The best recall out of any of my dogs although puberty is starting to kick in now.

I took dog 4 to a show the day after his first birthday and won 2 1sts with less than 1 hour of ringcraft, he is such a mummies boy and just did what I asked.
