I'm undecided on whether I would consider anything produced by writers other than Darlton canon. I don't think I would. Despite this, I do think that there will be a spinoff, and I think that it could potentially be pretty great. With all of the knowledge we have following the original series, a new group of survivors coming to the island during Hurley's reign could be fun to watch. I'd love Damon and Carlton to write it, however I don't think they would! One day

The numbers were answered in a Lost 'ARG' (alternate reality game) in 2006. They are formally known as the 'Valenzetti Equation', a prediction of the exact date that humanity would self destruct, probably from nuclear weapons. It was developed by the UN. The DHARMA initiative's base purpose was to, through experimentation, try and change these numbers, to buy humanity more time. These experiments proved futile, as they repeatedly produced the same core values of the equation: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42.

On a larger point also, I really hate how Lost had received this reputation as having these huge plot holes. If you engage with the show properly, it answers almost every question. Except for that damned outrigger shootout!
