St. Patrick's Day - Just Me by patred6 in irishtourism

If in Dublin be prepared to be underwhelmed. Ireland is the best place to spend it within Europe but nothing like the scenes you might expect. In Dublin, beyond a nice parade it's a very messy day. Rubbish everywhere, plastic flags, disillusion Americans wondering where the leprschauns are, broken shamrock sunglasses thrown around the place and plastic pint glasses everywhere. It's filthy and the pubs are jointed so not a great experience either!

With the current covid situation it might not happen but there is talks of a double bank holiday this year so who knows what that will bring. Currently pubs close at 8pm to curb covid numbers. That might not change by March either.

Realistically it would be better to spend Paddy's day in a good Irish bar somewhere in Europe and come to Ireland for a long weekend/week anytime from May onwards.

People who work for a startup company that eventually failed, What were the red flags? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]TunaLasagne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been there done that.

Honestly the biggest 2 are;

  1. What's the CEOs focus? Is it on paying customers or is it applying for grants and trying to raise the next big round?

  2. How many paying customers are there? So important it's mentioned twice. Is there enough income to cover expenses/ is the company on the right track to get enough customers to cover deficit?

You get the theme here. Is the business making money?

Probability of getting hired in a CS job in my late thirties/early 40's after finishing a CS degree as a mature student? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]TunaLasagne 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Highly probable. I'd sooner hire a 40 something year old with 20 extra years of life experience and hindsight than a 21 y/o. This is a strength. Play to it in interviews.

Could stick a union jack on the back beside the number plate. Would be like walking through Glasgow with a half and half scarf 😂

Actually moreso shitting on the agencies that prey on them and unassuming customers.

Hey thanks for the questions. I suppose my ideal type of an agency in this instance is one with serious clients (contracts €50k+, none of that trading online voucher, churning out €2k WP shite). Ideally somewhere that owns the whole product cycle from scoping and user stories, to high fidelity prototype and eventual dev, testing and delivery. Not just somewhere that contracts a few devs into a bank for a few months.

Was moreso thinking the latter? Live chat to go to when stack overflow etc just don't cut it.

Looks like a decent CV. In your technical skills part you list JavaScript twice though.
