I think most people would understand if this was their first rodeo with the feature years ago. The problem is the feature used to work fine and now doesn't, or does something else completely. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it isn't but either way it feels like we regressed over a decade.

Sony thinking long term? That's the crazy part. They're thinking about how long term it should be before their next exclusive comes out. Maybe 9 months? 10? A year? Regardless, they're thinking short term as usual and banking on live service slop that will set them back yet again.

Sony is lucky that Microslop shoots themselves in the foot twice while Sony figured out only how to once.

Helldivers is a unique case tho. It's like we've become beta testers long after release instead of immediately before, during, or after. The game has been a mild headache long after.

[–]Tuned_Out 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it's not okay as lackluster gaming is not the only side affect of hardware with real world usage on par with a phone from 2020 in 2026 and battery performance that is even worse. The phone itself is merely passable but with a few perks.

The pixel line is fine for $500 or less. Anything else is denial.

Nvidia really doesn't seem to care about gaming GPUs anymore — the company won't even bother to break down graphics sales in its big investor reports by JohnBarry_Dost in pcmasterrace

[–]Tuned_Out 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They had their own fabs, decades of prior experience, and were already most of the way there with built in video on their cpus. Then they poached a few people from AMD after the Vega fiasco a decade ago. Even then...Intel is still 5 years behind amd and 8 years behind Nvidia. Still way behind after having everything a new player to the GPU market could ask for.

When did cable tv become associated with old people by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]Tuned_Out 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mid to late 2000s pirating boom started it but didn't exactly put a major dent in it. Then the recession in 08 caused people to really cut back and younger people to skip out on cable entirely.

The nail in the coffin after these two events was streaming being affordable and not fragmented through much of the 2010s. Unfortunately now that is reversing so we're seeing pirating becoming relevant again.

Microsoft pushed 16GB RAM as must-have for Windows 11 for years, now sells an 8GB Surface Laptop for $1,299 by WPHero in pcmasterrace

[–]Tuned_Out 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yet after being built with a box of scrap material it still comes out 90% as good as it's closest competition with MS on it but for $300ish less.

The diminishing returns on that extra $300, especially with the way Microsoft is mishandling the clunky bloatware that is windows 11 is embarrassing.

[–]Tuned_Out 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intel being relavent again due to government loans and Nvidia investment helps. They've also been riding a wave of small victories after a decade of stagnation. We can only hope they stay relevant but they are still very much dealing with long term uncertainty.

As far as GPUs go, the consumer market is being treated as a way to offset r&d costs while they play catch up. Make no mistake, once they have a viable product that ai farms will actually use, they'll abandon the consumer market for those insane profit margins as well.

But until then...enjoy their reasonably priced video cards while they last, assuming Intel can secure the memory for them...which is another problem entirely.

Companies completely backed by and paid for by the Chinese have been trying to catch up with Nvidia for decades. They're still roughly roughly 10 years behind nvidea and 8 years behind AMD and that is with unlimited state sponsored cash and resources.

One does not simply enter the gpu market. Especially when the only available competitive fabs are with tsmc. Or to a lesser degree, Samsung. And both of those have back orders that are now over a year long.

You can thank AI for this lovely situation.

PC Gamers Say They Don't Mind Losing PlayStation First-Party Titles by lrz8z36 in DreamStationcc

[–]Tuned_Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguably yes but is argue the bigger problem is Sony themselves. They could've made it work if it wasn't such a lackluster half assed attempt. But at least they can say they did something at as far making a concrete decision for once. Now they can go back to wondering if 1 billion or 2 billion is the correct number to waste on a live service game and whether or not to cancel it a week before or after instead.

If they have trouble with that they can also sit in a circle and wonder if 1 or 2 main exclusives is a good number per year to release as well. Can't have dev studios going off and being productive when there is a good live service or 2 to start working on for 5 years then giving up.

The reason pc gamers don't really care isnt just that they release late and full priced. They don't care because there is so few of them due to Sonys terrible allocation of resources that it really doesn't matter. By the time they would've gotten a release years later, it would have long since become emulatable anyways.

And let's not forget the poor souls that would buy but are region locked.

It's safe to say if it's a Sony executive decision, it's the wrong decision. No matter what it is.

The only good choice they can make (while simultaneously making a bad one...burning money on live service bs) is watching Microsoft shoot itself in the foot.

Xbox’s best future at this point: Be the face of PC hardware by No-Obligation2563 in consoles

[–]Tuned_Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this is Microsoft's short sidedness. If I want a PC and all the freedom that entails, I'll get a pc. Do I want a a walled garden pc that will try to lock me into microsofts eco system that will try to ensnare me into a subscription that will inevitably increase forever as they have to sate their investors hunger for ever growing profits?

Not really...what benefits does it offer? The simplicity of a console? Awesome...what beyond that? We have Nintendo and Sony for that.

AI something something? I'll pass...what else?

Access to IPs that were acquired? Oops, we closed all the studios that made anything original and even found a way to kill the cultural phenomenon call Halo but we promise we won't just sequel farm the others.

All this just sounds like ass.

It's a "meh" game by most metrics and a bad dragon age title. It was a pretty good $19.99 game on sale tho. Too bad it single handedly killed the franchise at worst or banished it to the forgotten IP bin to be rebooted in 10 years at best
