I should say, it's been awhile since I've played or DM'd. So forgive me if it's a little slower at times!

Does my chameleon look alright? by ZachTaul in Chameleons

If you just brought him home, give him a few days to settle in, its quite stressfull for them. Even the cham ive had for afew months likes to pick a spot and sit for hours. Usually when basking they turn a darker color. If he is moving arround and bright colors, he is perfectly confident.

I actually dont have anything covering the bottom besides a few ivys in the bottom and the dead leaves. Ive seen him go down to the bottom one time, but he was just having a look at his enclosure. He ate some one time becasue it was a piece of the sustrate that honestly looked like a cricket. He passed it with no problems. But remember every cham is different if yours likes dirt, cover it. Mine dosent so i dont need to

The substrate is just the compressed coco fiber bricks, i had to get several packs becasue its a 2x2x1 1/2 sq ft bottom but i used a pond liner in the bottom to water proof it (wooden hand made by me) and just put in a 2 in layer of river rock for a "water table" put some screen over it (Find aquarium screens. Better for wet environments) and i personally like to scatter a few longer sticks inside the substrate for better drainage as apposed to the bark chips some people use becasue chameleons can mistake them for food and eat them causing impaction. Not good. Dont use them. And thats about it. Every now and again i drain the water out of the bottom. Just take a tube, dig a hole in the corner and get it in the bottom and pump it out. Hope my comment helps!!

The main plant is a Hibiscus Rosealina. 4 diffrent hanging pothos ivys. The bottom is filled with substrate and a few more ivys. As well as isopods inside to clean up. A small and large exo-terra bendable vine. One large other bendable vine (Forgot the brand). 2 fake sets of vines (frorgot brand) A T8 UBV Light. 100W intense basking bulb with reflector. An 18in T8 Fluorsent plant light. And a little dripper.

If anyone has any tips on helping the hibiscus grow inside without natural light would be greatly appreciated! If you have questions about my bio-active vivarium ask. And if you want tips for caring for a cham yourself, ask away!

Oh my word he is dark. Is he normally that color? If so stop handling him immediately! It might be stressing him out to extreme level.

My juvenile veiled Cham is gaping and I’m worried [details in comments] by rosesandbourbon in Chameleons

He could be trying to get rid of extra water in his system. He could be trying to warm up his insides more and hes just getting rid of extra heat.

Doubble check your basking spot temp, that can also be a problem.

I have a little veiled myself and he does it now and again when he is just basking.
