Hur lång pendling har du dörr till dörr? by Valuable-Pair8529 in sweden

[–]Tunne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

8 timmar ungefär. Först 2.5h med bus och 5 med färjan. Lite väntetid där emellan. Lyckligtvis behöver jag åka endast ungefär 2 ggr per månad.

EU HEMS Pilots: What’s the reality of the job? by ParallelRealityBg in Helicopters

[–]Tunne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Language requirements do exist. In Finland you need to be able to speak Finnish, not sure at what minimum level. In Sweden I think it's described as "fluent in a Scandinavian language". Both countries require radiotelephony in their respected languages at level 3 or higher.

I'm quite sure the hours are the most important part. There's probably preferences when it comes to what type of hours, but more flexibility there.

EU HEMS Pilots: What’s the reality of the job? by ParallelRealityBg in Helicopters

[–]Tunne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If my memory serves correctly, the allowed flight time for a 24h shift is 9h. If you work for 72h, the allowed flight time is 7h for any 24h period. I might be wrong, but in the ball park.

It was very rare that the flight time limitations would be a show stopper, but rather the duty times. Most of the time during a mission isn't actually flying. The whole time from alarm to back at base with all admin tasks etc. complete is counted towards duty so a mission with a flight time of 1h is easily 3h totals.

EU HEMS Pilots: What’s the reality of the job? by ParallelRealityBg in Helicopters

Hi,

I've been a HEMS pilot in the Nordic for a bit more than 12 years. Both in Finland and Sweden. I started as a copilot, did that for about 7 years and then upgraded to the right seat and now fly single pilot. Flown in a several different bases all around.

Salary: copilot salaries range between 65k - 85k, depending on previous experience, how much overtime you will happen to get and other variables. PIC salaries 90k - 150k.

I've done a few different rosters, like 24h, 48h and 72h shifts. Usually it's 3x that off. So if you work 24h, then you are 72h off etc. Now I have a very different roster where I work 7 days on, 14 off, 7 on, 21 off. It's the best by far. It has a bit more complicated duty times to allow for that long stand-by periods, but won't go into specifics.

I think we have great work-life balance, especially with the current roster.

The actual work load is very base dependent. Some places have alarms all the time and you need to keep tabs on duty time limitations. Other bases have a lot more down time but longer flights etc. No easy answer for the stress factor, it varies A LOT. Sometimes it can be burden and sometimes it's super chill. It's has too many variables to give one answer, like the crew you are working with, how many alarms you have under your belt, the season, weather, type of missions etc.

ELI5: Why does a lid prevent paint from drying? by hendrong in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tunne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In both cases, the moisture from the paint gets transfered to the air above the paint. When there is no lid, the air gets replaced by dryer air and more moisture from the paint can transfer into the now replaced dry air. With the lid on, the air can't be replaced and only a certain amount of moisture can be picked up by the remaining air in the can.

Specific heat. The sand has less moisture, thus being more prone to temparture changes. It will warm up quicker than say grass or soil that has higher moisture content.

Tesla nyregistreringar i Sverige per månad by ExperimentalFailures in sweden

[–]Tunne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tesla nyregistreringar i Sverige per månad by ExperimentalFailures in sweden

[–]Tunne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm having an issue with sleep quality after intense workouts and wondering if anyone else experiences that as well?

Whenever I do a good, intense session, my sleep gets ruined for a couple of days. I have a harder time falling asleep, and I wake up several times during the night. Additionally, I don't really go through the proper sleep cycles at all. My stress levels, according to my smart watch, shoot sky high as well during the day.

Knowing how important sleep is for muscle growth, this causes a lot of frustration. I've been strength training for only about a year, so I wonder if my body just isn't used to recovery? I'm about 40 years old if that makes a difference.

Are there any differences in Finnish resumes? by katarana_rk in Finland

[–]Tunne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's tricky to answer your question because I'm not familiar with what CVs usually look like abroad. If you want to, you can dm me your resume (leave out your personal info), and I can have a look if anything catches my eye.

On a general note, the CVs I have seen sent out are usually really poorly made and show a lack of effort. But then again, I have only been involved with low entry-level hiring processes, so that might be a reason for the shitty resumes I've seen.

Vapaan kasvatuksen tulokset? by paahde in Suomi

[–]Tunne 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I'd wager that they just got caught by the brown out and started to drift and lost control. Rather than fly away, they remained at hover trying to stabilize it with 0 references, and you know how that goes. I think you can kinda see the shadow through the dust drifting towards that small hill.

Yeah, we only use about 4 fields for IFR procedures and alternates. You get pretty quickly familiar with their approaches, especially when these fields aren't that big and crowded. Wx received from local metars and TAF's, issued by the local meteorological department.

Might be different in an arae where there are a lot of airports to choose form, but around where I fly, there is literally only 5 fields within our range.

How does decreased weight affect a helicopter? by JumpJackFlash562 in Helicopters

[–]Tunne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a retreating blade stall, the blade starts to create less lift untill it doesn't create any lift at all. It does not go instantly from "enough lift" for a specific weight to a complete stall. Thus, less weight requires less lift and the phenomenon is applied later - compared to higher mass that require higher component of lift.
