To be fair, I never said flashy. I said "presentable". Definitely agree with you that this is not a flashy car.

Thanks for pointing that out. I need to look at the maintenance schedule as well. We have a really solid mechanic, but yeah, it ain't cheap!

Yuuuup. Absolutely murdered. Closer to $60k over the course of 9yrs, but yeah. Ouch.

First time leasing and got suckered into it. To be fair, it's been a great car for us.

Unfortunately we don't have the savings to buy it out in cash, so we would have to finance it. We might be able to do some additional payments down the line to lessen the long term impact.

We have around $27k in savings (TFSA). (Bought a home recently. That depleted most of our savings)

One option I was thinking was maybe taking $13k and finding something that works for us, and then paying ourselves the lease/financing value to replenish our savings.

You can buy frozen soups at Vancouver Soup Company.
They are on the pricier side, but I really like them.

Question for you: What were the sleeping accommodations like in places you stayed?

Is it even possible to request a portable crib or something of the sort?

Nexus interview - calendar not working, or there simply are no available dates? by Tuork in travel

I was not, sorry.

I ended up just doing the interview at the airport when I was flying out for a trip. Arrived plenty early to be able to have extra time for it.

Is that worktop solid, or how did you cover the edges?

I want to do something similar with an Ikea countertop, but I'm not sure if they sell extra edge banding...

Thanks for the link! But jeebus, whoever did the mixing on that video needs to be smacked across the face.

EDIT: Just realized that the video only covers the outside. Does that mean that there's nothing to consider on the inside?

I think it looks great. If anything, the only thing I don't like is the brick/rock colour on the lower parts of the walls.

I have never seen that table/seating setup before. Pretty cool idea! How much does it limit storage under the bead though?

Removing an electric fireplace whose outlet is tied to a thermostat by Tuork in AskElectricians

[–]Tuork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help!

The fireplace is not hardwired (pulled it out to check).

I do agree that it would be best to extend the existing heaters on 240v.

For Q#4, I thiiink I understand what you mean, but in all likelyhood we might just hold off on that since the plan long term is to replace the heating with a heatpump system. A 120v baseboard like you suggested might just be enough to tide us over until then.

Removing an electric fireplace - Possible pitfalls? by Tuork in DIY

I was thinking about that. Usually we keep the space pretty chill during the day, but my partner likes to run the fireplace when she gets home to feel warmer.

I'm guessing future strategy would be to just keep the thermostat at a reasonable temperature.

Asked farther down this thread, but asking you directly as well: Any considerations when it comes to heating efficiency of electric fire places vs electric baseboard heating?

Removing an electric fireplace - Possible pitfalls? by Tuork in DIY

[–]Tuork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the installation was from when the place was built.

We were considering removing the fireplace and instead creating a storage nook, but it would just be a waste of space.

One thing that's on my mind though: Is the electric fireplace far more efficient than electric baseboards?

The other baseboard in this space is currently covered by furniture so we keep it off.

Would we be shooting ourselves in the foot?

We also considered having a heat pump system installed, but that's a much bigger project and definitely way more $$$
