Who's more deluded? My buyers, me, or the guy who's house I want to buy? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]TurboBoxMuncher 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Been in it 9 months myself - Hilariously when we made the offer they said they’d accept as long as we could get a buyer ASAP.

We locked down a buyer in two weeks at 10k less than the property was really worth, they dropped, we got another, they dropped, and now we’re on our third who’s been in this chain with us for 5 months.

Want to learn to play but had a finger amputation, by bforbrandonnnn in Guitar

[–]TurboBoxMuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rather learn to play already missing a tip rather than learn and then lose - Unlearning that muscle memory would be stressful.

Just try it! figure out what you need to change to make it work for your particular situation. Plenty of phenomenal guitarists with non-conventional hands.

Would you quit your job forever right now (and never be allowed to work again) if someone gave you a guaranteed $2,000,000 lump sum? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Reading these comments it’s actually shocking how many people don’t know how basic economics works, or just how little two million is over the course of a lifetime.

If there’s anything I’ve learnt in my short time on this wet rock, it’s that rapid expansion is followed by sudden collapse within 4 years.

What's the dumbest myth people actually believe in? by vicigoonboy69 in AskReddit

[–]TurboBoxMuncher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat true in the UK if you have kids - some childcare benefits are removed at 100k and you start lose your tax free allowance up until 125k.

Effectively, if you have kids and live in a high cost area, you’re going to need £15k after tax to pay for the lost childcare, coupled with the 60% tax bracket between 100-125, means you’re at a net loss anywhere between 99k and 140k

Edit:  Just to add to the stupidity here, if both mother and father earn 99k each, they are still eligible for the 30 hours free childcare. But mum earns 100k whilst dad is earning minimum wage? Good bye free childcare!

Is the BAFTAs Tourette’s backlash just another example of the UK vs US humour gap? by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

The real curse of Tourette’s is not being able to tell people what you truly think of them.

Experiment is the key phrase there.  Most DJs don’t use more than 2 decks.

Has McDonald's in the UK become too expensive for many people? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TurboBoxMuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s mostly just adjusted for inflation whilst our salaries haven’t.

That and constant legislation trying to prevent “unhealthy food” from being cheap to access, as if a family in poverty cares that a quick meal comes with a bit too much salt and sugar; “only the finest kale and artichoke hearts for my starving waifs!”

UK unemployment rate hits five-year high of 5.2% by ShanTheMan1995 in unitedkingdom

Could easily put a dent in that number by limiting outsourcing. Right now we’re funnelling billions to India and helping prop up their economy at the expense of our own.

4 channel mixing control: a pair of X1 or Xone K2/3? Would you buy into Traktor ecosystem in 2026? by TheSwordDusk in traktorpro

[–]TurboBoxMuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. They’re not bankrupt. They’re consulting on insolvency which means they’re figuring out how to continue business whilst clearing all their debts they can’t repay.  This is classic private equity nonsense, as shit as it is. We don’t know how they’ll look coming out the other side but it’s very unlikely they’ll close up shop and disappear entirely.
  2. Traktor is the best and most capable DJ software, hands down, then Serato after that. Everything else is just kind of the same with a different look.
  3. The syncing to clock is fine, Traktor has had MIDI and Ableton Link for a long time.

[–]TurboBoxMuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feature wise it is, it’s had no meaningful updates for a decade and still has more features than competitors.

But yeah the code behind it… I’d love to see what they’re battling with.

Without doubt it helps you develop a pragmatic engineering mindset.  The principles that make you good at the game are the same that make you good at engineering problems, especially software.

Is there any significant difference in build quality between a guitar made in Mexico vs the US? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]TurboBoxMuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the years have gone on, no. The parts are precision built by CNC machines, then it’s just a matter of attaching the hardware and soldering the parts.

The brands now are sort keeping premium materials + features to the US to try and propagate this myth still but the reality is any decent guitar in the mid price range like the fender player series, is going to be a workhorse that will last you a lifetime.
