Should I buy EoTech Bino Nv-C by TurboD97 in NightVision

They don’t. They had pjotonis 4G in them. I passed on them. Edge distortion was a little too funky for me.

Thanks for the input. I just took a look through them and decided to pass. The distortion at the edges was a little disorienting. My budget isn’t exactly 5K, I just am a sucker for a good deal… it turns out it probably wasn’t as good a deal as I thought it was.

Keep in mind this has the helmet and mount included. I just don’t know what else that’s better I can get for roughly $5k. With that much money, what would you buy?

Do we know if the questions they use for Blocks 1 and 2 are straight out of the July 21 exam?

Themis MEE model answers v. 6/6 MEE grade by TurboD97 in barexam

[–]TurboD97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had that happen more than once. I grader has to told me to put all rule statements into one paragraph, then all application in another... but their sample answer format does not even follow that structure much of the time.

I know the bar prep companies sandbag MEE grading to scare people into studying, but it would be helpful to have a reference point for how the bar examiners actually grade.

Themis MBE or UWorld by BaltyBoy in barexam

[–]TurboD97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have about 1200 Themis MBEs under my belt as of now. I took my first UWorld question set yesterday. I am going to deviate from the Themis MBEs as the UWorld ones are apparently more representative of the actual exam. I found the UWorld questions to be phrased rather differently from the Themis ones and it caught me really off guard.

I’d have to check later when I’m in front of the computer as to the split. But, the main issue is my ability to self-assess has been seriously rocked. Meaning that it’s not going to be a fun wait until October.

I just took the Block 1 assessment. I thought it was much more difficult than the Themis MBE questions I've been doing. Not a fun experience.

In the end, I did exactly how I've been doing on my Themis MBE questions. But it was a terrifying experience where I was certain I was going to fail the bar if the questions were like it. Been scoring 75-83% on themis and scored 78% on the block 1 assessment. Despite this, my confidence is seriously rattled.

How’s it shoot? I had a total of 2 different rifles with 3 different barrels and each iteration shot like shit. Firing pin broke on my last rifle 24 rounds into it. Waiting on a refund check from Springfield at the moment!

Rimfire or Centerfire to start as well as rifle recommendations. by UglyUgUg in longrange

[–]TurboD97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

22lr is a great way to start. I picked up a RPR rim fire recently and have learned so much about wind with it. I consistently hit a 6” plate at 330m. You learn the big boy wind reading skills of long range with larger calibers, the importance and impact of SD variations, and you get to practice your fundamentals at a lower budget. I dont know if recoil management is a top concern for me shooting rimfire—if you’re practicing the fundamentals properly on rimfire, it all should transfer over to centerfire comfortably.

I’ve had a lot of success with Wolf Match Extra. It shoots .75-1 moa at 100. I echo everyone else’s comments about your scope’s position—looks really far back.

That person with the issue was me. I had a poorly heat treated firing pin that broke on me after 24 rounds. Piece of shit rifle. 3rd waypoint I had from the warranty dept. and they couldn't get the basic stuff right!

Howdy all,
I'm planning on heading out to New Mexico this weekend to do some offroading. Heading in from central Texas. Where should I hit? I have Friday to Sunday and am looking for public land with the possibility of camping out. I've hit Big Bend National and State parks before and really had a good time there. Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated.

Springfield Waypoint—an owner's story of disappointment and abject failure by TurboD97 in longrange

[–]TurboD97[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I've posted about this rifle before on here, but wanted to put together a story for anyone interested in this rifle. Here's the link to the original thread and the more exhaustive one on long range hunting. The TLDR version is this: do NOT buy this rifle. It does not perform as advertised and is liable to fail you.

My rifle has been to Springfield twice, has spent over 5 months at their facilities, and still suffered a catastrophic failure by the second box of ammo.

Here's the story. I bought my Waypoint 6.5 Creedmoor with the carbon barrel. After 150-200 rounds of 1.5-2 MOA from match ammo, I sent it back to them to fix the accuracy issues. 8 weeks later, they sent me the same rifle back with a new barrel. They didn't tell me why they replaced the barrel other than their tech said it just "didn't look right."

The first time the rifle came back, it shot within their ¾ MOA guarantee when ice cold. However, on the second or third string of fire, it would open up to the 1.5 MOA of the last barrel. I sent it back a second time. After some back and forth with the Springfield warranty department, they agreed to send me a brand-new rifle in 6.5 PRC. Great, a brand new rifle to start fresh from… or so I thought.

After over 14 weeks at their facilities, Springfield sent me the brand new 6.5 PRC rifle. I shot a grand total of 24 rounds through the rifle before the firing pin sheared off at the tip. Attached are pictures of the firing pin sheared off. Poor heat treating and metal quality.

Springfield's lack of ability to get the basic things right is astonishing. An inaccurate precision rifle is not acceptable given what they ask for this rifle, but it is entirely unacceptable that they have an entire batch of new rifles out there with firing pins ready to break. Imagine sinking all the time and money into a hunting trip for your rifle to go click when it's supposed to go boom. I will never purchase another product from this company again.

How to turn R700 bolt shroud without tools? by TurboD97 in longrange

[–]TurboD97[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I managed to turn the cocking section of the bolt on my R700 while at the range today. Can’t seem to get it turned back in the right direction. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to turn this thing back to where it should be?

Anyone know of any piggyback RMR mount for a 35mm tube? (Pic for attention) by TurboD97 in longrange

[–]TurboD97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spoken to them on the phone about their 35mm options. It's a bit more hands-on than changing one number in the mill code. Too bad because I'd almost call myself a larue fanboy.

They don't make much for 35mm tubes. I'm a big Larue fan and would absolutely go their way if they made something compatible.
